Christian Music
Back to forgot...'s Webspace (Home)
This section contains lyrics for my own Christian songs as well as the words of some of my favourite hymns and songs.

Although it can be sung with the same voices as and played with the same instruments as other types of music,
christian music is different from other types of music. The music on other sections of this website and the music we listen to, sing or play at other times is for our own enjoyment and for that of those around us (with customer service line 'on hold' music and custom-honda-sub-woofer music being possible exceptions to this). But Christian music is not just for our own enjoyment, it is for our edification, that we may be built up as Christians and also for God's enjoyment. So what is Christian music? Christian music was around as early as Psalms and can be seen today being played by bands like Delirious, but this does not tell us much about it. Christian music is music which celebrates what God has done and praises him for it. Hallelujah comes from Hebrew and means 'Praise the Lord' and Hosanna also comes from Hebrew and means 'The Lord saves'. So next time you hear Christian music (or are singing it at Church!) remember: Celebrate what God has done for you because it is something truly worth celebrating.
Thank you Lord is a song I wrote at the beginning of 2002. I was mostly inspired to write this song when I thought about what communion meant and about how the God who gave us everything offers us life anew.
As a song I think it has a lot of potential as a good worship song and I'm working on a piano accompaniment at the moment. I hope to finish it very soon.
Amazing Grace is one of my favourite hymns and was one of the first songs I learned when I first became a Christian, it was only later that I learned it was written by John Newton, who was an ex-slaver who later became a Christian minister and abolitionist. It is like a four-verse summary of Christian life.
When I Survey is another favourite hymn of mine. It is about Jesus' sacrifice and how we also need to take up our own crosses and follow him.
May the mind of Christ (My Saviour) is another one of my favourite hymns. It is about Christian witness, showing what Jesus has done for you, in every aspect of your life. My favourite lines are from the ending "and may they forget the channel / seeing only him". Witness is what glorifies God in the eyes of the nations.
