Street Magic:
Interrupt (Continued)
He closes his eyes, his hair falling over his goggles in a way that is so unbelievably hot I just want to strip him right there. Instead, I reach my hands behind his head, and take the goggles off. He seems to pull back for a second, as if confused. I drop the goggles gently on the table beside us, run my hands through his hair and bring him closer. He doesnt protest. I hear him give a soft moan as I ease myself into his lap.

I dont know how some women manage not to end up in bed with a guy, when they finally get alone. Jess always laughs and asks how I expect someone to respect me, since I give everything away on the first shot. But Ive never had that problem. Sex drags me along to the end. Like dancing. Besides, theres a part of it that feels like territory. I keep that to myself.

Im working my way down the buttons on his shirt when Maxis starts to push me away. Wait! He sort of stutters out.

I put my mouth on his, drawing him into another kiss. Maxis is an excellent kisser. He starts out slow, tickles the inside of my mouth. His tongue meets mine with just the right amount of pressure. Waves of pleasure flow through my body, from the center out. I press in a little closer. I want to feel his body against mine. Then he starts to pull away again.

No, wait. Hes breathing in hard gasps. His eyes open a little, brown and slightly glazed.

What? I ask, confused. Is something wrong?

No. I mean, I just dont want

On the couch, Maxis, I am ashamed. I hear a voice exclaim from behind me. It sounds like Blitz.

I jump back, put distance between Maxis and I, now thoroughly embarrassed.

Maxis is blushing furiously, his eyes wide. Its not what you think. He says, Well, I mean, maybe it is what you think, but its not really what you think andI thought you were coming in late Blitz!

Blitz is standing in the center of the room, with Hannah right next to him. His expression shifts between amused and annoyed.

Hannah seems completely shocked. Lyssra, dont you have a boyfriend? She asks.

Its like all the frustration from today shoots to the surface. My fingers grip into the sofa. I hear fabric rip. Rob and me are over. I growl.

Color leaches from the room. I realize Im changing forms. The shift starts at the hands first generally. I reach inside and push it back.

Okay. Hannah steps back.

Im sorry. I apologize. I look down at my hands. Theyre human now, though partially embedded in sofa stuffing and ripped upholstery. And your sofa. Ill pay for you to get that fixed.

I cant make myself look up. Not yet. I feel that nibble of fear growing my stomach again. If Maxis hadnt looked as shocked as I felt when Blitz and Hannah barged in, I would have thought maybe hed stopped us because of them. But I know thats not true. Which means something else made him change his mind. He didnt likesomething.

Ive never had that happen before. It seems wrong, like walking across a throughway between two buildings, only to have the foundation drop out halfway there. Maybe he changed his mind. Maybe hed forgotten my secret. Maybe he remembered it then. If so, this little reminder pretty much ended any chance we might have had.

Its okay. Maxis says, absently. Ummwe were going to pop in a vid-disk, if you two were interested.
