Street Magic:
Friends and Partners (Continued)
I see my reputation preceeds me. Blitz responds, taking her hand and raising it to his lips.
Jess grins. I like him.

Theres a matter by which we must discuss. Blitz looks around Jess to catch my eye.

Well discuss away. Jess throws out before I can say anything.

It would seem to me that this current courtship has goneawry.

Courtship? I can feel myself blushing as I hiccup over the word.

My dear, I am not blind. Blitz continues.

So are you here to help or what? Jess asks, her back tensing slightly beneath her glassy clothes.

For a moment Blitzs eyes catch fire, shoots of flame jumping between them. Jess leaps back and I can see her hands shake slightly. I cant blame her. The hair is raising on the back of my neck as well. Ive obviously done something to piss Blitz off, but damned if I can think of what.

Blitz inclines his head to me again as he continues. Now. He exhales. I feel as if you you and Maxis would make a fantastic couple. My issue is, there is suspicion that there is another in your life. Something told me that while Maxis is under the impression that you already have a boyfriend, Im inclined to believe not.

Youre inclined right! My embarrasment is wiped away in a flash of pure rage. Who the hell told you that?

As I said, Maxis is under the impression that you have another.

Well you can go tell him hes wrong. I throw the words out through grit teeth.

Who is this Rob?

Rob? My rage focuses; my voice grows low and hard. I havent been with Rob in over three months.

Hmmwell it would seem to be the night that Maxis dropped you off, he asked Rob to keep an eye on you.

Fine fucking job he did too. I dont even realise Im speaking until the words fall from my mouth. Rob has a clawmark over his heart to remind him how over we are.

Then I would suggest you let Maxis know. Im sure his interest would be far more peaked. However, I will remind you of one thing. He is my best friend. Blitz shoots me a glare so cold I feel my bones ice over. Zehbob is just a minor example of what I am capable of.

Im shocked quiet, caught between anger and fear.

He smiles politely, as though this entire conversation has not happened. Maxis has the evening off, surprisingly there was a message on the machine for him. I have classes until later. He glances at his watch. Please have a good afternoon.

Blitz turns, throws his bookbag over his shoulder and walks calmly away.

My fists are clenched so hard I feel my nails dig into my skin. Im going to kill Rob. I say it and I mean it. I can feel my claws around his throat. My feet turn in the direction of the club, and Jess is running behind me, her high heels clinking against the ground.

Wait! Wait! Jess yells in my ear, grabbing my arm as I half walk, half drag her behind me. Thats a sure trip to Arena, Lys. Youre my best friend. Im not letting you do that to yourself. Ill handle it. She adds desperately.

What? I cant imagine Jess throwing down with anyone. She has that sort of charm which means she never has to. Im so surprised I even slow down a little.

Killing him isnt going to hurt him. Her tone turns feral, and for a moment I see someone in Jess I didnt know was there. Let me handle it. Ill hurt him. Besides, you need to sort this out with Maxis tonight. You cant do it if youre arrested.

Rob will pay for this. I say. My hand is bleeding slightly where my nails penetrated flesh. I dont feel the pain.

Yes he will, where it matters most to him. Jess smiles, but there is no humor in it. He wont know what hit him. I promise.

I breathe out, letting go of muscles I didnt even know were clenched. Damn. I cant believe he did that Jess.

Dont worry about it. You really have to watch that temper of yours. Jess lets go of my arm, which I realize now she was holding hard enough to bruise, There are other ways to solve your problems than ripping someones heart out through their spleen.
