| Lyssra: Well Im sorry that I could not be here to see you wake up and thank you for all of your kindness. Im not sure what happened last night but can imagine that from my current state of breathing I most likely owe you my life. Im not sure how to thank someone for that but I hope that my friendship could be a start. Maxis Spellstorm Apt. 605 Owe me his life? I remember my fingers flew across the notescreen, saving his words without a thought. Not that apartment 605 is so difficult to remember. Hell, the same apartment number is taped to the bottom of the Blastboard he gave me. I saved the note because it made me confused. Too many loose ends. Too many things left unsaid. Its Sunday. I havent been attacked in over three days, havent been in a fight in at least two, three again if you dont count my pavement crushing defeat by the werewolf Maxis creamed. I even got through my morning ballet and forms. So I shouldnt feel so off-center now, standing in front of his door. My hand raises to knock and I drop it to my side. Even if he doesnt owe me his friendship, I still feel like we might become friends, and friends drop in on friends. Its normal. My hand raises again. Maybe I should have called first. Maybe he wont be home. I grit my teeth, glaring at his blue chipped door as it seems to laugh at me. This is stupid. I ball up my hand and pound on the door with the side of my fist. A few flecks of paint fall off. Come in. Someone yells. Muffled through the door I cant even recognize the voice. His place has more walls than mine. I open the door and thats the first thing I think. It seems smaller. Especially since there are three people packed into what I guess is the living room. One is Maxis. I can tell by the goggles and ruffled hair. Lyssra. Hi! Sit anywhere. He looks up, smiling. He and a blond haired woman are leaning over the coffee-table, peering at a portable notescreen. Her brow is furrowed when she looks up, but she flashes a brief smile before turning back to the screen. I cant make out the third guys face from the door, because his back is to it. I guess hes really involved in whatever hes doing. He hasnt said anything yet. So I figure its time for me to find a seat and be quiet. Im not a big fan of straightback chairs so when I see a footstool I grab it and start carrying it over to the table. As I get closer, I know why the third guy isnt talking. I see them in front of him, like soap bubbles but more solid somehow, they twist and whirl through the air. Im frozen, holding the stool under my left arm, as I watch them move in lazy circles. We should probably take a break now, Lisa. Maxis says, putting the notereader to the side. She nods, looking kind of relieved. I guess I expect the bubbles to disappear, or maybe just keep hanging around in front of him. I dont expect them to float towards me. My breath is caught in my throat. I extend my hand. I want to know if theyll feel like soap or glass when they brush against my fingers. But I dont find out. The bubbles pop an inch from my hand, exploding into little sparkles which when I actually take a second to notice, spell out the word hello. I laugh. It escapes like little bubbles from me as my eyes squinch together. Wow! Umhello. I say, waving at him with my free hand. Im Lyssra. He smiles. Ahh, so you are Lyssra. Theres an open bag of SnakeSnacks wiggling in my stomach or at least thats what it feels like. Maxis talks about me? Well, a friend of Maxis would be a friend of mine, so you may call me Blitz. He continues. Although I will admit, Maxis does tend to keep very odd friends. Hes still smiling and the smile softens his words, as though hes including himself in the joke. I drop the stool and sit down on it, my knees together, my feet out to the side. Im learning that more and more. Nice to meet you Blitz. I say, catching his eye. He cocks his head, then turns to Maxis. Maxis, you have terrible manners. He says it in an almost chiding tone, like he was forced to remind Maxis of these things a lot. I can believe it. Maxis blinks repeatedly like hes woken almost from a trance. Right, I didnt introduce you guys. He says, looking faintly guilty. Lyssra, this is my roomate He pauses, giving Blitz a look with a question in it. Ive already introduced myself. Blitz replies. Maxis nods, Great! And this is Lisa who Im helping study in magic. He says, waving his hand towards the woman, who nods. And Lisa, this is Lyssra. Did anyone want anything to drink? |
