| I just nod. My thoughts are falling in one after another as I try and put things together. Judging by the number of angles caputured as the footage continues, its obvious there are at least fifteen different cameras. They have to be small and at the same time hold enough juice to capture and relay the footage over a decent period of time. Smaller than the mobile cameras used to record blastboard games, with remote activation. Expensive and definitely not street legal. But what do they want with Lyssra? And why was I left out of the loop? I mean I know her well enough. I helped her find an apartment and a job when she ran away. Not that I was too keen on the idea. Lyssra had the look of someone whod try it on her own and end up in worse trouble. And she offered me a decent clip of cred just to find her someplace to work. To be honest, I figured the girl would run back home as soon as she realized she was going to be living in a slum apartment and working at a strip club. I doubt thats the connection. Her own mother doesnt know about my role in this, though I find it ironic that shell occasionally pay me to keep track of her daughter. The woman is a few bricks short anyway. Lyssra, Ive come to find out, isnt. The point is, I know lots of people. And lots of people know me. Just because I keep an eye on the girl doesnt make me her keeper. Or anyone to her really. Which can add up to a couple of things 1. Lyssra is in a whole lot of trouble. 2. Im being edged out by new competition. Probably both. Maxis must see something in my expression because he looks that much more concerned. Not good is it? I had a bad feeling. Ill look into it." I add in a more level tone, "Im making coffee, did you want some? Worst thing to do is give Maxis something else to worry about. A damsel in distress is the last thing he needs to add to his workload. Especially this one. Still, I have to agree with him. It doesnt look good. Not at all. Just because Im saving every credit to get out doesnt mean this isnt my city. Jhaelyn watches out for his interests. All of them. I think its time to remind to remind some people of that. |
