Sophie was outside my house playing with her sister Stephanie on 30th
June 2000, my husband Anthony was on his way home from work in his van
when she was sitting on the curb playing with ants, there was a big van
parked on the corner which made it hard for Anthony to see Sophie, I
came out of the house when I heard Anthony's van but I was to late Sophie
was allready under the wheel, I picked her up straight away not even
thinking that your not meant to move anyone in an accident, I was
screeming with her in my arms I knew I had lost her, Anthony then came running
and took her from me, he was trying to clear her airway and give her
mouth to mouth, my neighbour Liz called 999 and was holding me while
Anthony was still trying to clear Sophie's mouth, the amblance arrived and
thay took over thay worked on her for about 40 minites out side my
house before thay took her to A&E, when we got to the hospital my family
were allready there I remember seeing my mum in this little room, The
Doctor came in and told me Sophie was very sick, I told him she was gone,
he replied saying we are doing all we can for her, I asked to see her
and he took us in, I remember seeing wires all over her, the Doctor then
said she's not responding to anything, I looked at him and said she's
gone has'nt she and he just nodded, at that point I think I passed out,
the next thing I remember is seeing Sophie in Anthony's arm's at the
end of the bed, I could'nt take it all in, it all seemed to happen so
fast. We went home soon after because I wanted to get her little toy dog
spunky she got for her 5th birthday and her teletubbie PO, I knew she
would of wanted them so I took them to the hospital for her. I then had
to go home to see my other children Ryan 7, Stephanie 6 and courtney 2
and to tell them about Sophie. Sophie was the sort of child that
everyone loved, very cheeky, she loved to sing and dance she stood out in a
croud, my house is so quiet without her around, I can't wait for the day
I can hold her in my arm's again.
