Chapter 3: A Friend To Me

It wasn’t a hard decision for Sam and Natalee to make when they decided to stay in Florida. Both of their parents were thrilled that they had gotten really great jobs and to the surprise of everyone the situation was working out really great.

The day that Natalee found out that she was going to have a baby she thought her world had stopped spinning. She broke down and told Sam in almost the same exact way that she had told him about her one night stand with Lance and just as it wasn’t a hard decision for them to make to stay in Orlando; it wasn’t a hard decision for Sam to tell Natalee to keep the child. He promised her that he would protect her and stand beside her.

He waited in the car after nearly a month of deliberation on her part to tell Lance that he was going to be a father at 16, she rang the doorbell for what seemed like a dozen times before the neighbor came to her.

"Hey are you looking for the guys that used to live here?" He asked sweetly.

"Used to live here?" She asked with a questioning look.

"Honey, they moved about two months ago to Germany I think. It was for a contract with BMG." He told her and quickly turned away when he realized one of his kids was starting to play in the yard. She returned to Sam and without saying anything he knew that Lance was gone.

Six Months Later*

"GOD GET IT OUT OF ME!" She screamed as Sam tried everything in his power to calm her.

"I AM HAVING THE CHILD OF SATAN! I have to be." She slowly was starting to calm down after yet another contraction and eighteen hours after it started.

"Not to much longer MS. Thompson. This little guy seems like he wants to wait for the fireworks." The doctor said after he checked her again.

"FUCK THE FIREWORKS; THIS THING IS GOING TO KILL ME!" She exclaimed again as yet other contraction hit.

The doctor prepared and within 5 minutes, she was holding 21 inch, 9 pound 5 ounce, Conner James Laake.

Both Sam and Nat cried as they dried Conner off. Kissing her forehead Sam sweetly whispered you’ve always been a friend to me. As they each looked on at their Independence Day baby. Sam was the first one to hold Conner and he knew that he had make the right decision to raise the child as his own with his best friend.
