Chapter 15: Ain’t going down til the sun come up

“Of all days for Justin to announce his foundation to the world.” Lance thought to himself as he regrettably shaved what had started to be a beard from his face.

He had planned to be a hermit that day. He made sure he had a stock of butter pecan in the freezer, some sappy movies that he would never admit to watching and the home video that showed her dancing to the music.

It had now been four years since he had lost his heart. He knew everyone thought he should be over her by now but somehow with everything that they had been through he always swore that he could still feel her very close.

***DOWN THE STREET FROM LANCE****

“Sam, what the hell are you doing?” Natalee whispered to him as the three of them walked into the unbelievably expensive house.

“Well, just think of it as a dream house. They don’t have to know that we really can’t afford it and besides it helps your imagination.” Sam smiled as he showed her the way in holding Connor.

It finally dawned on her what he was doing when they took a tour of the house and came upon a teenagers room that was plastered with *NSYNC. When they returned to the car it was about two minutes later that Sam finally realized that Natalee wasn’t paying attention but at that moment neither was he when a Toyota 4 Runner back out of it’s drive way and speed away narrowly missing them.

“Idot!” Connor yelled from the back seat making both Natalee and Sam laugh hysterically.

“I know why you did this today.” Natalee half smiled to Sam.

“Well it’s about time that you get yourself out there. You need to stop pinning away for him or go after him. It’s not like you don’t know how to reach him.” Sam said not really wanting to.

“But he has gone on with his life and I don’t want to interrupt that and besides everything is fine how it is.” Natalee said trying to change the subject.

****BACK TO LANCE****

He felt bad for pulling out in front of the car but by the time that he realized there was a baby seat he couldn’t bring himself to go back and the fact that he was late didn’t help.

****ROCK AND ROLL BEACH CLUB****

The memories instantly came flooding back as soon as he entered the club. He couldn’t believe that they had decided to go to Paradise Island knowing what day it was but then again it was also the anniversary of the group’s first show together. He tried to stay as long as he could but it didn’t help matters when the waitress revived his nostrils with a smell that Natalee had that night.

By the end of November they finally had their law suits settled and they began touring again. It was hard enough for Lance that he wasn’t going to be with his family for the holidays but to be going back to the one place where he almost got his mind off of Natalee was crazy to him.

As they were escorted in, there was the second most amazing woman he had ever seen. Her long blonde hair gently flowed down her back. Her curves were greatly accentuated by the short skirt suit that she wore with the black heels. The only the thing he could do was stare. The only thing the guys could do was force their mouths shut because they realized that Lance was oblivious to the fact that they clean cut girl that stood before him was Jayme.

He couldn’t believe it when he finally realized it was her and she proved it by showing the small tattoo on her back. She had changed so much.

“What made you want to change?” Lance said as the two sat at a quiet coffee shop.

“Well, when we broke up. I realized how much I hurt you and when I got back I found out that I was pregnant.” She paused for a moment.

“YOU’RE WHAT?” Lance stiffened as he prepared himself for what she just said. “Then instantly working the Math in his head realized that she wasn’t pregnant anymore. “What did you do with my child?” he demanded to know.

“Your child?” She asked puzzled. “Oh my god, Lance, why did you break up with me?” She asked when she began to laugh.

“Because you cheated on me!” He said sternly.

“Well, about 4 weeks after that. I got married to the father of my child. I gave birth 2 months ago. It was a healthy little girl, her name is Abigail.” She smiled pulling out pictures. “He put me through some classes at school and now I am the manager at the front desk.” She was still slightly laughing. “You were the best thing that ever happened to me James.” She kissed him on the cheek.

“Don’t ever give up on your dream of finding her, James. She is right were you aren’t looking I bet you anything. Wait until the sun rises in your heart and you will find her.” She spoke softly as the two hugged. She met her husband outside and he went upstairs alone to ponder what he used to think was the worst mistake of his life other than letting Natalee go.
