Skinning and Tanning

  • Skinning and tanning items is the rangers nest egg and where you make alot of coin. Tanning requires two things mech lore and alot skinning. So, let's focus on skinning first. After you killed a critter you can skin them. First use your carving knife or skinning knife. Just typeskin "critter name". You will get a number of things depending on the critter. Skins, pelts, and tusks are just a few of things that can be aquired from the skill. Also be sure to search your creature because some of them drop coin or boxes. Make sure your ranger bonus is in tact when you skin. It's harder to skin without it.

  • Now you have the skins and pelts, so what do you do with them. First you need to go to the town tanning shed and purchase a hide scraper. The skins and pelts need to be cleaned. You can sell them without scrapeing , but you get more coin for cleaned hides. With your scraper in your right hand and the pelt or skin in your left type scrape my pelt with my scraper (quick, normal, or careful). I always use careful. I seem to learn more and I don't run the risk of marring the pelt or skins and ruining them. After you scrape the skin or pelt you need to put it into a bundle to make it easier to carry. You can free bundling from the tanner or you can make your own by braiding vines. You should be braiding vines because it teaches mech lore, but I stray from the point. with the rope in your right hand and the skin or pelt in the left type bundle. Bundle every pelt or skin after you scape it then when your done take the bundle to the tanner and sell it. The verb for that is sell bund and you need to be holding the bundle to sell it.

  • Rangers can make massive amounts of coin by arranging the skins or pelts. Arranging is a ranger only skill which you get when you become ardent in skinning. Ardent meaning over 100 ranks. It is possible somewhere a little over 80 ranks to cast the spell hands of Lirisa and that should get you close enough. Use this spell to help your skinning and when you scrape. To arrange after the creature has died typearrange , wait for the roundtime, then skin the creature. Watch that roundtime if you are a room with other critters you may find yourself getting hit.

    Tanning an Item

To begin your tanning expierience you will need a few things such as a a hide scraper of course, leather lotion (for hides), pelt potion (for pelts), a bone bodkin, a spool of stout thread, tanning shears, the pattern, and lastly the skins, hides, or pelts. It's best to have arranged pelts. This makes the process of creation easier. Also, having a intact ranger bonus and good cast of HOL never hurts and again makes the creation process easier.
