The Silmarillion
In the Elder Days Morgoth, the Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth and the High Elves made war on him for the recovery of the Silmarilli - those perfect jewels created by Fëanor, most gifted of the Elves. The Silmarillion tells of the rebellion of Fëanor and his kindred against the gods, and of the war, hopeless despite great heroism, against the great Enemy.

The Silmarillion is J.R.R. Tolkien's tale of the creation and first age of Middle-earth when the Elves awoke and Men entered Beleriand, together to fight against the dark enemy, Morgoth. It is a high tale of fantasy and adventure much different from The Lord of the Rings which often looks back to it.
