43 (RM) Commando

Proper Wearing of the Green Beret
48 COMMANDO AWARDS CEREMONY, FRANCE, 1944. An excellent photograph showing Marine Vardy of 48 (Royal Marine) Commando being awarded the Military Cross (MC) by Field Marshall Montgomery.  The green beret worn by Marine Vardy is pulled down far enough where it covers the majority of the right ear. The beret was worn in this fashion during the Second World War by commandos, airborne and infantry troops.  This photograph also serves as a excellent example of the proper wearing of the P40 "economy" battledress with exposed buttons.  The British WWII P-37 Khaki web waist belt is worn blancoed green, firm against the waist.  43 RM CDO (Re-created) uniform standards require that the green beret be worn in this  manner. CORPORAL HAROLD JONES, ROYAL MARINES, 1944. Another photograph showing the proper wearing the green beret:  the Royal Marine cap badge at or near the left eye, the beret proper being pulled back and over to the right side, covering most of the right ear.  This photograph also shows an excellent view of the Denison smock, the Corporal's chevrons on the right arm, and interestingly, Corporal Jones wearing of a shirt and tie with his smock, zipped down just far enough for it to show!
