It's hard to believe that here we are past the shortest day, I never thought that would mean something to me, perhaps it's an age thing as you seem to feel the cold more. Not that it has been too bad at all yet, perhaps we are heading for another mild winter, wouldn't that be great?
Certainly winter has not affected turnouts to our club events. It is great to see so many people taking part, especially when the organisers put so much effort into them. Thank you to everyone.
If you feel you have anything at all to contribute to our club events please contact a committee member, I am sure that they will steer you in the right direction.
The Convention will be on us before we know it, and having been involved with quite a few club events since our club's inception, the interest that is being shown in our upcoming International is quite incredible. Many people are dropping us a note saying that they want to be kept up with what is happening, and it is surprising how many intend to bring more than one car.
Until next month.

I am hoping to take more pictures of member's cars on the next club run, so if you'd like your car featured that may be an incentive to take part!
I would also like to get a small paragraph of info about the individual cars to put on the page with the pictures, so you may want to give some thought to what you would like to say.
I am needing information concerning the manufacture of Zephyrs in NZ - production numbers, specifications, prices etc., so if anybody knows where I can find that sort of info, please get in touch with me.

The committee have been working hard on all aspects of the event, finalising the entertainment and putting the final touches to the weekend's programme.
Registration forms will be posted to all those who have indicated an interest to attend and to the Zephyr clubs within the next week.
Our members will each receive a registration form and are asked to return them as soon as possible.
We have already received a request from one Australian visitor for "a ride with a local member" but I wonder if anyone would be prepared to lend one of their Zephyrs for this visitor to use on the runs over the weekend. Please give it some thought and let one of the committee know. This member owns a Mark 4 Zephyr - as there may be other similar requests your co-operation would be most appreciated.

We purchased our MkI convertible in December 1987, after a phone call from Malcolm Stewart telling us that he knew of one for sale. It didn't take much prompting for us to jump in the car and head off to have a look at it. We purchased the car that night, and haven't regretted it since!
When we bought it, it had a fresh coat of paint, was a good runner, but was a very plain, red MkI convertible. It didn't take long for us to stamp our personality on it! - whitewalls, aerials, fox-tail, dice, Mags for a while, but now it's on Starfires, continental kit, stereo, fog lights, wing mirrors, headlight hoods, personalised plates - all the good stuff!!
We had wanted a convertible for a while, and when we purchased this one we already had a MkI saloon, ready for painting - Barry Goddard soon took that off our hands, and so there was plenty of room in the garage.
MK1 RAG started life in Auckland, spent time in Rotorua, and then down to Christchurch, where it spent most of the swinging 60s.
We have been members of SC ZZEC since it's inception, and I believe that our club is one of the best, if not the best in New Zealand, how's that for bias? We have a great group of people who enjoy their cars, and each other's company.
As to our hobbies outside of cars - if we are not at the lake over the summer skiing, fishing and having fun - you will find me eating rice and beans, going to the gym, and competing in bodybuilding competitions.
And Suzie - she sculps and makes porcelain dolls, and teaches two porcelain doll making classes per week.

The run started with all the cars and owners meeting at Pak n Save carpark for registration and viewing of the 100+ cars (All British - not a Holden to be seen)
After receiving our instructions, Dan was elected navigator for the first leg. The instructions and directions became a little blurred between the run of jokes and laughter along the way - we only missed one turn which wasn't too bad considering the the trying circumstances.
The run took us down Kellands Hill, through Rosewill Valley to Pleasant Point, then on to Totara Valley and Raincliff, before crossing over to Cave for lunch.
We just happened to notice the Cave Arms door open, so a few passengers quenched their thirst and had a meal, while the cars were parked up and the drivers compared notes.
For the afternoon run we changed navigators and headed out over the Cave hill towards Cannington, Pareora Gorge, and Holme Station. Some people found time for a quick cuppa and watched the cars go past.
We then followed a route through Gordons Valley, Bluecliffs, and back to Timaru via Brassells Bridge - without getting lost this time! finishing up at the VCC clubrooms for a cuppa and sausage sizzle.
After talking to numerous owners, it was obvious that the run was an overwhelming success, with great scenery, through an interesting part of South Canterbury.
Congratulations to the organisers for a job well done!

MkIII Zodiac
A cool evening didn't prevent a good turnout of about 30 members and friends for what should have been an 85km run, but for a few turned into something a bit longer.
Most entrants managed to find their way out of town to Otipua, but then the elusive Bristols Road caused a few problems, not least to the lady (who shall remain nameless) who, having stopped behind us to collect a gum leaf, asked where Bristols Road was, on being told that I didn't know, her car was last seen heading off into into the distance.... maybe I should have told her that we had just turned onto it..........
After a good drive around some very dark back roads, that I believe took us through the Backline Road and Bluecliffs area, we eventually arrived at the Fire Station for a very good supper.
The event was won by the Harkness' team, and I'm sure everbody would like to thank the organisers for doing an excellent job, as there must have been a lot of work involved in setting it up.
Mike.
The run to Homebush Station that was scheduled for the 27/28 June had to be postponed due to the bad weather, and will be held later in the year..... watch for details.
