I discovered the art of goalkeeping when I was 6 years old, from that day on I never wanted to do anything else. I played for junior Sunday sides until I was 13.I was then invited to Rotherham United F.C to train with the "school of excellence". I signed schoolboy forms at 14, and started fulltime at the club in June 1987.I turned pro in 1989 and made my Football League debut that season away at Bristol Rovers, I was 18 years old. I also won the Under19 Intermediate Cup that season against Newcastle United against such rising stars as Steve Harper, Steve Watson, Lee Clarke and Steve Howey. I stayed at Rotherham a further two seasons, playing in the side that won promotion in the 1991/92 season. I then signed for Scarborough F.C, I had a good season, the highlight being our Coca-Cola cup run in which we beat Bradford, Coventry and Plymouth before finally losing 1-0 to Arsenal who went on to win both cups that year, beating my beloved Sheffield Wednesday in both finals. I then had a year at Doncaster Rovers before returning to Scarborough. Season 1994/95 was blighted by injury and I spent a time on loan at Halifax before being released and finding myself without a club. I dropped down two divisons to non-league football with Gresley Rovers. I spent 5 1/2 years there and loved it the highlights being winning the Dr Martens League and being in charge of the team after the sacking of Garry Birtles. Unfortunatley we were not allowed into the Football Conference due to grond restrictions, our place was taken by Cheltenham who went onto win promotion again into the Football League. The low at Gresley was being relegated in the 1998/99 season. Midway through the 1999/2000 season I got a good move into the Conference to Hednesford Town. I set a club record of consecutive clean sheets in the Conference, but lost my place the following season playing only 5 first team games as the side were relegated. I now find myself looking for a new club so I can get back to doing what I love best GOALKEEPING. . |
