Create a Toulmin Model based on one of the four following
enthymemes on page 76: #3, #4, #5, or #6. Number six is somewhat tricky as it’s
a definitional claim—you might want to complete reading for Wednesday before attempting
to build your model. Model should have seven parts: the skeleton (claim,
reason, and warrant) and the flesh (grounds, backing, and the two rebuttals). Though
you might feel most readers would readily grant your warrant, still provide
backing for it. Note that the more you develop your grounds and backing, the
more you’ll be able to generate meaningful rebuttals. A qualifier—the eighth
part of the model—isn’t necessary.
