Hi...I am Wanda and I live in Kingston, Ontario Canada....I am 42 and a single mom of Kenny 21, Christopher 18 and Kelly whom would have been 23 now but passed away after a brave fight with lupus in 1991. This is a page I made in Kelly's memory with alot of help from my friend Lavender on graphics and designing. Being mom has always been important to me, infact that is mostly all i ever been from time I was 18 up till now. Children are important to me and that is how and why I spent the last four years being online mom to over 240 kids from all over the world in a chatroom called The Babble. During the past week I have spent alot of time surfing web on violence in schools. I would think everytime a child gets hurt, everytime a child is killed by a peer more and more people would realize just how bad things have gotten. I believe there is ways to stop this. I believe the bullying starts early in life. That if a child in elementary school is bullying other children whether pushing, hitting or calliing names that teachers should notify parents and this is the time to start at the child early in life so he can be helped. By not solving problem with that child, then we could some day see the tragedies that are happening in high schools today. I believe we as parents teach our kids to respect others, laws, adults and their peers then we will be taking steps to conquer these problems. The students have to learn not to tease other children. In many of the cases bullies are teases and pushed over edge in high schools. Remember we all the same. We are human beings and all equal, some of us might have different circumstances, different religions, colors, some may be poor but inside we are all the same and all same feelings, all get hurt. Respecting each other will lead to solving this. What I would like to accomplish with this web site is not only make a support group from those parents dealing with it, but also look for answers to change the system. I would like to work someday with perhaps government, teachers, school boards, parents and children themselves. I believe the answer is getting the violent children the proper councelling and help when they are as little as possible. Perhaps then we can save a life or more of the children that might sometime later turn on their peers no matter what way a child is hurt, it is too much. I have alot of ideas on this and I am just getting started. I would love to work with others online through email or message board perhaps even icq or msn. This problem is not going away, infact it is worse and it wont go away on its own. But a single step in right direction will get the problem solved in some point of time. I believe as children, our parents make us or break us. I would love to gather support, to hear your stories, and I would love to work with you to help find a solution to school violence.
