STOCKHOLM,, Sweden (AP)— Swedish NHLers Peter Forsberg and Mikael Renberg will play for Sweden in the World Hockey Championships, the Swedish hockey federation said Thursday. The Swedish team's general manager, Claes-Goran Wallin, said Forsberg would be joined by the Toronto Maple Leafs' Renberg.
"We are working frantically to make all pieces fit together," Wallin said.
The International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championships in Finland start Saturday in Helsinki, Tampere and Turku.
Forsberg's season with the Colorado Avalanche ended Tuesday when the team lost to the Minnesota Wild in the first round.
The Avalanche won a record ninth division title and Forsberg became the team's first player to lead the NHL in scoring, picking up 106 points.
Renberg's Maple Leafs were ousted from the NHL playoffs after losing to the Philadelphia Flyers.
