Inside the Rankings
Miami’s
weekend of rest served them quite well in the rankings this week. While Ohio
State needed overtime to defeat Illinois on Saturday, Miami watched as its
own strength of schedule skyrocketed, sending them into the top slot. With tough games remaining against
Pittsburgh (#14) and Virginia Tech (#25), Miami is a lock to remain at number
one if they win out. Texas,
last week’s #7, felt the wrath of Kingsbury and Texas Tech, handing them
their second loss of the season, and catapulting them out of the SCI Top 10
for the first time all year (Texas Tech rose seven spots, from #33 to # 26). Iowa
concluded its regular season by defeating Minnesota (#38) this past weekend,
but couldn’t get any higher than #7 in this week’s SCI (they were #9 last
week). Their only hope to move up further is to have the teams above them
stumble, or pray that the teams they have beaten this year creep up in the
rankings. |
