Denver hired a new athletic director in 2005. In recognition of her support for football while employed at the University of Michigan, she was awarded the General Robert R. Neyland Outstanding Athletic Director Award by the All-American Football Foundation.
However, she stated that funding DU's existing sports at "at a competitive Division I level" is a priority over adding new sports.
In lieu of football, Homecoming at Denver features a hockey game.
