Jacquelyn Johnson, the 2004 NCAA heptathlon champion, started strong in her first trial meet and ended the day in 11th place with 3,365 points. The true freshman from Yuma, Ariz., opened the day by collecting 1m015 points in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.74, placing her first in her heat and seventh overall. From there, she secured 879 points in the high jump (1.72m/5-7.75) as she placed tied for 10th in the event and slipped to ninth in the overall standings. In the shot put, a throw of 10.92m (35-10.00) garnered her another 590 points, but again she slid down the standings to 12th overall. In the final event of the day, Johnson placed ninth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.06 to score 881 points, pushing her total to 3,365 points and 11th place.
