, 但收入有限. 谭姓和陆姓的村民时常欺负他. 谑笑他无後;

              Anecdote of Feng Jang Yuan

Ancestor, Tian Fu (1743-1792) lived in Hau Le Li, Kun Dong Village, (now known as Ya Yao Town) He Shan District, (now known as He Shan City) Guangdong Province, China. Kun Dong Village is a very small village of twenty to thirty families of the Thams, Lus and Fengs. Ancestor Tian Fu was the only Feng Family there. He was a farmer. He had three sons, namely: Da Xian,  De Xian and Chen Xian.

Da Xian was born in 1762. His wife, Le, was born in1763. They had one son. He was poor.

De Xian was born in 1771. His wife, Cheng, died early. He married again with Fan. They had one son, Jang  Yuan. They were not rich.

Chen Xian was born in 1776. He married M/s Tham, who was born in 1782. They had two daughters. They were very poor too.

Jang Yuan was born in 1807. His father died in the same year, leaving behind a very young wife and a few months old baby son. In those days, life was so bad and the widowed mother had to leave for her maiden home and tried to raise her son in her fathers house. Later, she married again to another village.

Chen Xian was very hard working. His home was so small that its front door was so narrow and only one person could pass through at a time. The other villagers knew it as a one-door hut. They teased and pestered him, saying that he had no offspring, why should he work so hard because his daughters would marry away one day. He was much annoyed and worked harder. At the same time, he looked around for his sister-in-law, Fan. When he found her, he sold his two daughters. With the money, he got back his nephew. Fan refused to come back as she had married again and had a new family. At that time, Jung Yuan was less than three years old. In those days, it was considered a shameful thing. Our elders seldom talked about it. In fact, if our great grandma, Madam Fan did not wish to part with son and great grand uncle, Chen Xian, did not sacrifice his two daughters to redeem his nephew, we, the descendants of   Jang Yuan, would not be in this world.

When his mother,  madam Fan, died, Jang Yuan could not bury her. So he burred one of her silver shields as a token in memorial of her. Her tomb is the biggest one amount the Fengs in the village. He also succeeded to find his two cousin sisters, who were sold for his sake. They were friendly for the rest of their lives.

Jung Yuan was a very straightforward man. He led a Spartan way of life. At first, he was a farmer. Later, he gave up farming and became a merchant in Guangzhou. He opened a hat shop and life was getting better. He raised four sons, namely: Chao Qi, Hong Qi, Ren Qi and Lian Qi. Ren Qi became a scholar and was a graduate of the first degree in the old examination system. He became a

Country-gentry and stayed in Wa Yao , (Shan Village.) The other three sons were merchants. They were doing quite well.

Now, the descendants of Jung Yuan numbered over two hundred. They are in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand,

Canada, and the United States. Those, who live in China,

are in Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, and Shandon. Only

one or two families live in the Shan Village.
