Maggie's love is not returned by her alcoholic ex-football playerhusband, who is being reunited with his father over Big Daddy's sudden illness. Big Daddy explains to Brick (Maggie's husband) that he has some doubts as to whether his life held any meaning. Although he does not express it as openly as his father does, Tennessee Williams implies that Brick is going through a similar identity crisis. In this play about a family that doesn't say what they really want out of life and doesn't show their true feelings for each other, Williams tells the unspoken truth: no family is normal. |
