| Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, one of Tennessee Williamss greatest plays, it tells the story of a dysfunctional Southern family brought together over the failing heath of Big Daddy. He is the center of the family and its wealth. The family not only takes advantage of the time together to fight over the inheritance, but also uses the opportunity to tear each other down for their faults. Sister Mae and her husband have visited the plantation to squabble over the inheritance they feel that they deserve, considering the fact that they have six children. As a competitive tactic against the beautiful Margaret, wife of Big Daddys son, Brick, Mae snobbishly points out that they have no children, as Brick refuses to sleep with Margaret. They also exploit Brick's alcoholism as an argument to why they deserve Big Daddys money, heaven forbid he should die of cancer. |
