Raising your Pet's Level and Stats:
Leveling up: There are a few ways to do this.  If you are very lucky, try going to the shrine at noted times for levels, or maybe you'll get a quest from the air faerie.  Maybe if you are reeeeally lucky, the healing springs will sometimes raise your pet's level, or sometimes you can get levels from the Kitchen Quests on Mystery Island (Don't take the quests if they're over 10k).  There are 2 training schools... the one at Krawk Island which takes Dubloons, and the one at Mystery Island that takes Codestones.  Train at the Academy for as long as you can,  it may take longer, but it is cheaper.  There are also certain types of neggs that will raise the level of your pet.  These ones are:

Super Negg      ~>    1-3 Hitpoints and Movement, up 1 Level
Cool Negg        ~>    2-4 Strength, Movement and Defense, up 1 Level

Raising the Stats: The easiest way (certainly not the cheapest!) to do this is (I think) to use neggs.  You may also gain stats by going to the Coltzan's Shrine, Faerie Quests or the Healing Springs.  Here are the following Neggs that will raise stats:

Hitpoints:
Faerie Queen Negg
Snegg (1-3)
Spiked Negg (2-6)
Super Negg (1-3)

Strength:
Ferocious Negg
Power Negg
Cool Negg (2-4)

Intelligence:
Genious Negg

Defense:
Basic Power Negg
Silver Knight Negg
Cool Negg (2-4)

Movement:
Super Negg (1-3)
Cool Negg (2-4)

Random Abilitiy Raised:
Radioactive Negg
Plaid Negg
