Almost There

Rondeau
     by Michael Grant Smith

  My car goes faster when I tweak,
  combustion answers I must seek.
  The timing set to smoothly run,
  ignition gains that will be won:
  performance not yet close to peak.

  The Zenith Strombergs often leak,
  for British carbs are quite unique;
  but when the right adjustment's  done,
  My car goes faster.

  Its chassis starts to flex and creak,
  suspension members long antique.
  A sporty roadster built for fun
  meets endless days of summer sun.
  I drop the clutch, my tires shriek:
  My car goes faster.
