| True North info: January 16, 2003 Buffalo Springfield, a U.S. - based 1960's rock band featuring Canada's Neil Young, took its name from the side of a steam roller the band spotted at the side of the road. "Wouldn't it be groovy if we ever got as big as that steamroller?" A member of the band joked at the time. Happy Earth Day!!! Earth Day participation: * More than 500 million people in more than 180 countries celebrate earth day on April 22. * More than 85 per cent of the world's nations participate in Earth Day activities. * In Canada, more than 6 million people will take part in various environmental activities and events to mark Earth Day. Earth Day 04/22 - don't be 'idle' If every driver of a light-duty vehicle in Canada avoided idling their vehicles for five minutes every day, we would: * save more than 1.6 million litres of fuel. * prevent more than 4,500 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere. Other Canadian info: Smelly job for cops to find this cocaine: TORONTO A Toronto hospital required a search warrant before allowing a police officer to sift through a pile of excrement to find 120 packets of cocaine that had been swallowed by a smuggler. "That's strictly an assignment for the rookies," joked a Toronto police officer yesterday. The 37-year-old smuggler flew into Pearson International Airport late Wednesday abourd an Air Canada flight from Jamaica, police said. The man bolted from the plane, dodged security officers and disappeared. He turned up later at Sunnybrook hospital, sweating profusely and complaining of stomach pains. The police were called in when x-rays revealed that he had dozens of tiny packets in his stomach, The drugs were worth $11,000. Source: MetroToday Friday, April 26, 2002 This little item caught my attention as I saw something similar on a flight from Florida several years ago. A woman had half-an-ounce of cocaine in a condom, stuffed up her (you know where. She overdosed on the plane, as the condom had burst inside her. Emergency crews couldn't help her. It was too late. As you may know, there is a large number of blood vessels in that particular area of a woman's body and the drugs went very quickly through her system... |

| Squeegee Cops nab seat-belt offenders: BRITISH COLUMBIA Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby have been posing as the car window washwer at major intersections in a bid to catch people who are breaking the law by not wearing seat-belts when they drive. The undercover officer washing the window looks inside the car to see if the seat-belts are properly attached; if not they give a quiet signal, and the car is stopped again by a uniformed officer a short distance up the road. "If you're lucky, you just get your window cleaned," Const. Phil Reid said. It is actually illegal to wash car window on the street in Burnaby. |
