| 03-02-2003 - Mick Makes SuperSkate Appearance Former three-time WWE World Champion Mick Foley made a surprise appearance at the fifth annual SuperSkate hockey game in Madison Square Garden, New York. Attended by a host of celebrities, including WWE superstar Chris Jericho (a four-time participant), Foley drove to Madison Square Garden after he was appointed co-coach of the Blue team with Kim Cattrall, who took out the match after losing the skills competition. Mick Foley made a huge splash upon arrival when he turned up, not in his typical dirty sweatpants and flannel shirts from his wrestling days, but a flashy sports jacket. I wear the jacket quite a bit, Foley said. Youve got to remember, Im an author. I speak to a lot of schools, and Im always debating whether to go with the flannel, which the kids will expect, or maybe to hit them with something a little unexpected. Hopefully theyll still respect me even if Im wearing something moderately nice. Also, Kim Cattrall is my co-coach, and Im trying to make a favorable impression on her. Speaking on his writing career during the charity game, Foley said that his latest book Tietam Brown would be in bookstores on the 31st of July, and that he was planning a new book set in the Bronx during the 1960s. However, the star of the night was Y2J, who was a true entertainer getting involved in various mock fights and taunting matches with opponents between playing some very good hockey on the ice. Jericho, when told of Foleys presence, said that, I hadnt seen Mick in a couple of years, Jericho said. I actually miss him. Its nice to see him again. He was one of my favorite guys in the locker room. Hes always been there for me, ever since 1993 or 94 in Japan. He helped me get into ECW. He was a good buddy of mine in WWE when he was here. Good guy. Good to see him. Overall, the night was a great success and raised a great deal of money for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and various other childrens charities supported by ice hockey team the New York Rangers. ick will be writing and no longer be involved with wrestling - it's a very sad day for myself and wrestling fans like me but it will be good if Mick can have a very successful writing career on top of the amazing career as a wrestler he has already enjoyed. |
