Newspaper Cutting (1)

This is a main article adapted from the New York Times on the 12th of September 2001, concerning the hijacked jets attack both the World Trade Center buildings and the US Pentagon, causing the skyscrapers collapsed as well as nearby buildings with an uncountable number of deaths and hurts. In the following paragraphs, I would express my point of view on the effect of this terror attack from four directions: military, economic, political, and society.

Some military experts say that this would be the eve of the Third World War. I would agree this but we have to consider two main points. The first one is that US government has to ask support for the alliance country because they cannot fight with others by their own power under the principal of modern moral regulations. I don’t mean US do not got enough power to fight by herself, in case if she really takes operations, she would be challenged by the United Nations. Besides, the US side has to find enough evidence acts as the reason or excuse to take revenge on the terrorists. Since everything is under the control of laws in a civilized country, and US is representing a highly civilized country, therefore US cannot take any operations before they found enough evidence.

US is consider as “The head of the train” in the worldwide economic system, and thus there are a number of international commercial corporations setting their headquarters in Manhattan. After the calamity, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) announced the stoppage of any type of the exchange market. This would let the worldwide exchange markets have a “bungee-jump drop”, as far as increasing the retardation rate of the global economy situation. It is because US people would have less demand on consuming goods; therefore this would affect the countries having export-industry as their majority industry. There is a risk in the exchange rate of currency between US dollar and others’ too.

Obviously the terror attack is pointing to the international policy undergo by the George W.Bush government, which is a political factor. On one hand, if we have a glance on the previous terror-attack history, we would find out the reason for terrorists attacking US: Terrorists want to attract worldwide focus, let others know who they are, and what they want. But this time those terrorists cannot make their job; instead, they let worldwide country get mad. On the other hand, the Bush government has to admire part of the responsibility. It is because most of the main officials had been the same position 10 years before, and they hold the Persian-Bay Conflict in Middle East during 1991. Till now, they still want to use such tight policy on affairs of Middle East, therefore some of the anti-US leaders in the Middle East think that they should have a time taking revenge on US, and thus causing this terror attack.

Since many people were dead or, at least, in unknown condition, their relatives and friends are burying themselves in worry very much. If we consider the worst case (i.e. over 100,000 people were dead in this terror attack), citizen of New York would be mentally having a great damage. They would get frightened when they travel by plane, or working in skyscrapers. In the mean time, the spokesmen from the government, even though George W. Bush said that the prime suspect was Osama bin Laden, the Islamic militant who operates from Afghanistan. As a result, the US citizen would definite giving a black mark on Middle East (Afghanistan) people, causing unfair treatment to those innocent people, or even discrimination.

I think that everything taking revenge is not a correct way to solve the problem. Although everyone living on the world having a bit selfish, we should solve the problems under the principle of fair treatment and public good. I hope the US government can think thoroughly about the pops and cons before they really want to take revenge on their ‘enemies’. I also pray for the victims, hoping they can rest in the heaven.
