The History of Sandy Bottoms
Softlad...
Sandy Bottom's Touring Club was set up by Simon Robert Metcalf.

                                            (Tour Name : Softlad)

Simon's love for touring, hockey and beer motivated him to organise many tours, including Holland, Southampton, Basingstoke, Bournemouth and Sonning. But sometimes this just isn't enough...

After several years of touring, Simon's vision was to create the ultimate tour team, a group of like-minded individuals hand-picked from the numerous tours, club teams and contacts that he had made over the years.

It was time to push the boundaries of hockey travel and live the dream - the ultimate tour team, the ultimate destination .........
BARBADOS

However. Simon was tragically killed in an accident on 14th July 1998, just one month before 35 "Sandys" took to warmer climates.

We know that  Simon would have wanted the name and spirit of Sandy Bottoms kept alive. Since the initial Barbados tour, numerous tours have been drunk dry and membership has doubled!

Next year we are going back to Barbados to play a few  games of hockey and drink for 14 days and 14 nights....why you may ask?

There is only one answer...

"..because we can?" (Softlad)
