CHAPTER 4: FINDING HOGWARTS

The room was empty and all was quiet. She looked around and then noticed the Hogwart's Coat of Arms hanging on the wall. "Whew....I'm pretty lucky today." She headed over to a table and looked at some papers littered on the desk. She found a letter. "Professor Dusseldoff.....great....what am I gonna do now?" It appeared that she had gotten transported to the wrong office.

Suddenly she heard some chatter outside the room. She walked across the room and opened the door.

It had opened to a corridor and a couple of students were walking by. It was late in the evening and the students had already eaten dinner and was heading back to their houses. They didn't seem to notice Eva. She walked out of the room and looked left and right. Where was Professor Dumbledore's office?

Suddenly, someone tapped her on the shoulder, which caused her to jump.

"Hey Cho! How was Quidditch Practice?"

She turned around and she couldn't believe who she saw standing in front of her.

A small, skinny boy with unruly, jet-black hair and magnificent green eyes looked back at her. It was Harry. He started to blush.

"S...Sorry! From the back, you look just like a girl I know....."

Eva smiled, trying to restrain herself from asking for an autograph. "Th...That's alright...."

They both looked down at the ground , as an awkard silence followed. Then suddenly, Harry looked up and smiled. "So! I...I haven't seen you around before."

"Yeah...I just transferred here from another school. I'll be starting classes tomorrow..."

"Really? Th..That's great!" Another awkard silence followed....this wasn't going too well.

"Oh....by the way...I'm Eva."

"Oh hey Eva! I'm...."

Eva interrupted. "Harry! Yeah I know already...." Eva was a little excited and just had to blurt it out.

Harry gave her a weird look. "How...how do you know my name?"

Eva blushed then pointed to her forehead and smiled.

"Oh right....." Harry rubbed his lightning-shaped scar. He still didn't realize how famous he was.

Suddenly, Eva remembered why she was here. "Hey, do you by any chance know where I can find Professor Dumbledore's office? I kinda took the wrong turn and ended up here."

"Yeah, I do. Would you like me to show you?"

Eva smiled. "Yes that would be great!"

With that, Eva followed Harry down the long corridor.

Eva and Harry was getting along great. They had started chatting about Eva's day at Diagon Alley.

"So have you checked out the Gambol and Japes Wizarding Joke Shop there? It's really neat but not as good as Zonko's Joke Shop over at Hogsmeade! I'll take you there some time!"

Eva smiled. She was worried that she wouldn't find a single friend here in Hogwarts but now she had found one, and to add on top of that, it was Harry!

"OY! HARRY!"

Eva and Harry turned around as a red-haired, freckled-faced boy came running towards them. He stopped and gasped for air. "I've been looking all over for you! Hermione wants to know..."

He stopped mid-breath and looked at Eva, then turned to Harry and mouthed the words "Who is she?" Eva looked at the ground and started to giggle.

"Ron, this is Eva! She's a new student. Eva, this is Ron."

"Oh!" Ron started to shake her hand. "Any friend of Harry's is a friend of mine!" Then he leaned forward and whispered to Eva. "Be careful of Harry though....he has a thing for girls like you.....you should see the way he looks at Cho!" With that, he winked as Harry gave him a hard nudge. "Ow!" Ron rubbed his side. He knew it would be a smart thing to stop.

Eva restrained herself from laughing. "Nice to meet you too Ron!"

Harry glared at Ron. "As I was saying....I'm escorting Eva on her way to Dumbledore's so you can come if you'd like."

"Sure, why not!"

With that, they continued on their way, as Ron started to continue on with a conversation.

"So Eva, where ya from?"

"Canada."

"Wow really? So you guys live in houses made of snow right? Wait.....what are they called....."

Eva gave him a weird look then started to laugh. "You mean igloos? Of course! But you gotta be careful in the summertime.....the house kinda melts on you...."

Ron's eyes had widen. "Wow.....muggle life must be pretty primitive there......must be terrible to live in Canada......"

Eva and Harry couldn't stop laughing as Ron tried to figure out what he had said, that was so funny.

"We're almost there! Just around this corner!"

Finally! To Eva, it seemed to have taken forever. And she thought high school was huge! She wondered how she would ever get to her classes on time.

Suddenly, they saw Professor McGonagall running towards them. "There you are! I was so worried when only Hagrid showed up!"

"I'm so sorry! I had ended up on the other side of the school! If it wasn't for Harry and Ron, I would have never made it here!" Eva smiled at them and they smiled back.

Professor McGonagall smiled. "So I see you've met Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley! Hope they didn't give you any trouble!" She winked.

Eva laughed. "Not at all! They were actually quite the gentlemen to escort me here!"

"I'm glad you're fitting in so well! My goodness! We're terribly late! We better get going now!" She hurried Eva along as she glanced back at Harry and Ron. "I believe you two should get back to your house now. With the homework I gave you today, there is no reason that you should be out!"

Harry and Ron grumbled. "Yes Professor McGonagall......."

Eva turned around and smiled. "See you guys later!"

"Bye Eva!" With that, Harry and Ron headed down the corridor, back to the Gryffindor House.

Professor McGonagall was facing a statue. She started to mutter some words, which strangely sounded like a name for some sort of candy. Eva couldn't catch it. Suddenly, the statue opened up, revealing doors that led to a spiral staircase.

Eva followed Professor McGonagall till they reached the top. Professor McGonagall then opened up another set of doors, revealing a beautiful circular room. It was filled with curious instruments and potraits of old headmasters and headmistresses.

Suddenly, Eva was picked up from the ground and was given a great, big hug. "Whoa!"

"Oh Eva! I was so scared that you didn't make it! I'm so sorry!"

Eva was being held so tight, she could barely talk. "Ha...Hagrid! You're....You're choking me!"

Hagrid loosend up his grip and set her back on the ground. He started to blush. "Sorry 'bout that......I was just so worried....."

Eva rubbed her shoulder. "It's alright! I'm here now aren't I?" She smiled.

He smiled back. "I'm relieved.....now that you're safe and sound, I better get going now......I'll see you tomorrow in class Eva!" With that, Hagrid left the room.

Eva turned around and looked at Professor Dumbledore, who was sitting at his desk. "Sorry I was late Professor Dumbledore."

He smiled. "Oh it's no problem for me! I believe a friend of yours has been very impatient waiting for you though...."

With that, a phoenix landed on Eva's shoulders. She started to nip at Eva's ear affectionately. "Fiera! Hehe....that tickles!" She started to stroke her head. "I've missed you too!"

"Come sit down! I'm sure you're very tired."

"Thank you." Eva sat down as Fiera flew towards a golden perch behind the door and sat beside Fawkes, Professor Dumbledore's pet phoenix.

"Ah....I see you've recieved your wand!"

"Huh?" Eva looked down and forgot she had stuck her wand in her pocket. She took it out. "I almost forgot about this.....Mr. Ollivander made it sound like it was really special or something......"

Professor Dumbledore smiled. "But it is special! A very special wand indeed. The phoenix feather in your wand was given by your phoenix herself." Fiera cooed. "It was custom made by Ms. Rowling just for you! Poor Mr. Ollivander...must have came as a shock to him when he found it in his store!"

"Yeah it did......" Eva looked at her wand closely and noticed her initials engraved on the handle.

"But even so....Mr. Ollivander knows a great wand when he sees one."

"Oh.....that's probably why he told me that he can expect great things from me...."

He smiled. "He's probably right! Well now, before we get onto the topic of your classes we need to sort you into a house! Don't want you to have nowhere to go now, do we?"

"I get to be sorted into a house?" Eva wondered what house she would be placed in.....

In the corner, Professor McGonagall held a frayed, patched and very dirty pointed wizard's hat and gestured Eva to sit down on the stool.

Eva nervously got up and went over to Proffessor McGonagall. She didn't mind where she was going to be put....all the houses seemed equally great....even Slytherin.....but deep down inside....she knew she wanted to be in Gryffindor. But what's the chance of being put there? She didn't find herself very brave or courageous....none of the aspects a true Gryffindor would have, but she didn't want these feelings to interfere with the decision.

The hat was slowly lowered onto her head. She waited. Then suddenly she heard a voice, it felt distant yet close, like the voice of her conscience that had just woken up.

"Ahh......very peculiar......I have never felt this before.....I can sense great power in you....yes....you are the difficult one.....where to put you....where to put you....."

Eva sat still as a statue, not daring to move, not daring to speak. It seemed like forever. She then noticed she couldn't hear the hat speak anymore. Where did the voice go?

She started to feel dizzy.....then she slowly closed her eyes......

She suddenly opened her eyes with a start and looked around. She wasn't in Dumbledore's office anymore. It was like she was transported to a black void. She couldn't see anything except herself. Then suddenly, she noticed four black figures approach her. She wanted to run but she couldn't move.

She could finally see them clearly. A lady dressed in a beautiful flowing blue gown laughed. " I told you the new heir was going to be a girl! Come on Godric! Pay up!"

A man dressed in scarlet and gold grumbled. "It's all your fault Salazar! I told you it was going to be a girl!" He reached into his pocket of his robe and pulled a small bag and gave it to the lady.

Eva was sitting there, stunned, wondering what was going on. Salazar? Godric? It couldn't be.......

A man dressed in green yelled back. "Well it's not my fault! Usually the heirs are wizards! How am I suppose to know they were going to have witches two times in a row!"

"Shh....quiet down! We're scaring the poor girl!" A lady dressed in yellow approached Eva. "Please excuse Salazar's behavior...he's usually very tempermental."

Salazar glared back at her but probably decided it was best not to argue.

Godric placed his hand on Eva's shoulder. "Sorry for that little interruption there! It's just that we've waited forever for the next heir to be sorted! Oh pardon for being so rude! We forgot to introduce ourselves! I'm Godric Gryffindor, at your service! The lovely lady in the blue is Rowena Ravenclaw...." The lady smiled and curtsied.

He gestured towards the lady in yellow. "....Helga Hufflepuff...." She smiled. "Pleasure!"

He frowned and then with a groan, "And this is Salazar."

"Salazar Slytherin to you!" He looked like he was ready to murder Godric.

"Yeah yeah whatever.....but anyways Eva, we're the four founders of Hogwarts! Once we sense the heir, we are revealed to them. It is sort of a tradition for the heirs to be sorted out in person."

Eva was still shocked. She couldn't believe she was meeting the founders of Hogwarts! "It's a great honour to meet all of you! But....how do you know my name?"

Godric laughed. "We've been expecting you right from the start! Of course we would know your name!"

Eva was confused. "B....But...I thought all the founders were dead thousands of years ago?"

Rowena smiled. "We are not acutally themselves, but a fragment of their memory. We are the spirits of them who places the students in the correct house."

"Wow....." Eva was dumbfounded. She was speechless.

"This is ridiculous! They had to send in another muggle-born witch! Back in my days, muggle-born witches would never have the potential to become a heir!" With that, Salazar stormed off, cursing under his breath.

Godric laughed. "Don't mind him....he's just mad because the new heir isn't going to be sorted into his house."

Eva looked in wonder. "So you already know where I'm going to be sorted into?"

Godric grinned.

Suddenly, everything started to blur......all she could remember last was Rowena and Helga waving goodbye as Godric smiled and winked at her.

All was quiet until she heard a loud voice ringing in her ears.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Eva opened her eyes with a start. Gryffindor? Professor McGonagall smiled at her and took the hat off.

"Wonderful! I knew you were a true Gryffindor!"

Eva smiled. She couldn't believe she was placed in Gryffindor. Guess the sorting hat knew more about her than she did herself. "Thank you! I'm very proud to be placed into Gryffindor!"

"Congratulations!" Professor Dumbledore reached for a stack of papers. "Now that we've got you sorted, we better get you your class schedule and your room." He handed her a booklet. "This is your class schedule and here's a map of the school to help you get around. You'll get used to it in time."

Eva flipped through it. She was amazed at how big her schedule was! How come there were so many classes? "This isn't right....this says I have 2 classes at the same time. And this one has 3!"

Professor Dumbledore smiled. "Ms. Rowling requested that you take all the classes we offered to expand your knowledge, so we had to manage a timetable to fit them all in. Besides, you have this to help you." He held out a tiny, sparkling hourglass.

"A...a Time-Turner?" Eva couldn't believe how such a small thing can do so much.

"Correct! You will use this to help you go through all your classes. Every rotation turns back the time by one hour. Remember to use it wisely though. I'm sure you understand the drastic results if you manipulate time."

Eva nodded. This was going to take some time getting used to.

Proffessor McGonagall smiled. "Besides, once you get used to your own powers, you won't even need a Time-Turner!"

Suddenly Eva noticed a blank block in her schedule. It was after classes every day. She pointed to it. "What is this time block for?"

Proffessor Dumbledore smiled. "Each day afterschool, you will come with me to help you train using your powers. I have an empty classroom provided."

Professor McGonagall eyes widen. "Oh my, look at the time! It's getting late! Now that we've got you all organized, I believe it is time to show you to your room." She gestured Eva towards the door.

Eva turned around. "Oh wait! I have one more question to ask......how will I keep up with all my classes when I've never attended the first four years? I won't be able to know what I'm doing and I'll fall behind!"

Dumbledore's eyes glinted behind his half-moon spectacles. "You haven't even been to any of the classes yet......how do you know it will be difficult for you?"

Eva quickly followed Professor McGonagall down the corridor towards the Gryffindor house, still wondering what Proffessor Dumbledore meant. Of course classes would be difficult. Why wouldn't it be? She didn't even know how to wave a wand properly....let alone transform a shrub into a cat or know the 12 uses of dragon blood.

They had arrived at the entrance of the house, where a portrait of a fat lady in a pink silk dress hung. The portrait started to stir and move. "Ah...welcome Proffessor McGonagall....password?"

"Gobbledegook."

Eva giggled. That had to be the funniest word she has ever heard. She thought, since gobbledegook was the goblin's language, they would probably sound pretty silly.

Th potrait suddenly swung open to uncover a round hole in the wall. Professor McGonagall led Eva into the Gryffindor's round, common room. It was a very warm and welcoming place with beautiful chairs and tables and a glowing fireplace. There was only a couple students here and there, trying to finish up some homework. Everyone else had called it a night.

Eva then noticed Harry and Ron sitting at the couch by the fireplace. They turned their heads as they heard Eva and Proffessor McGonagall walk in.

"Hey Eva! You got sorted into Gryffindor?! See Harry! I told you so! I always know a gryffindor when I see one!" Ron grinned.

Someone started to giggle. "What he means is, anyone who is willing to put up with him, has to be a Gryffindor." A girl with bushy brown hair sat up from the couch and walked towards Eva. "The boys have told me all about you. It's a pleasure to meet you." She smiled. "I'm Hermione."

Eva noticed that she didn't have any large front teeth like the book said. Guess she liked the way it looks now last time she reduced them. "Hi! It's nice to meet you too! The boys have told me alot about you!"

"Oh really......" Hermione turned around and shot a glare at them.

Eva laughed. "They told me how smart and wonderful you are."

Hermione blushed. "They did? I'm..n...not really....."

Eva smiled. "Don't be silly! I know all about you being on top of the class! Don't have to be so modest about it!"

Hermione smiled. "Thank you."

Professor McGonagall smiled. "Ah...Miss.Granger! Perfect! Eva will be staying with you. Would you mind showing her to her room?"

"Not at all Professor. This way Eva." Hermione led Eva to a spiral staircase.

Eva turned and smiled. "Thank you for everything Professor McGonagall."

Professor McGonagall smiled."You're welcome. Now run along now! All your belongings should already been brought up to your room. You'll need plenty of rest! I'm sure you're very tired from all that has happened today! Goodnight!"

"Goodnight." She then glanced over at the boys and winked before running after Hermione. "And I'll see you guys in class!"

Eva and Hermione went up the tower till they reached the very top.

"Well here we are." She opened the door revealing a circular room with 4 four-poster beds that were hung with deep-red velvet curtains. Two were already occupied.

The two girls sat up with a start. "So you're the new student! Nice to meet you! I'm Parvinder and this is Lavender!"

Eva smiled. "Hello! I'm Eva. It's a pleasure to meet you both." She then walked towards an empty bed where all her supplies laid. A nice black robe was laid on her bed with the Hogwarts coat of arms stitched on the left hand side.

"That's the school robes. This is your shelf where you can put all your belongings in and your school chest can go there."

"Thanks Hermione but I can sort this out myself. You don't have to help me, I'm sure you're very tired."

Hermione smiled. "Well if you need any help, don't be afraid to ask."

Parvinder and Lavender had already gotten back to sleep and Hermione had slipped into her bed. Eva started to organize her things and to get ready for her classes the next day. When she finally finished, she slipped into her pajamas and set her glasses on the nightstand, then got into bed. She looked around. She had always wanted a four-poster bed. "This is nice......" She smiled while slowly closing her eyes. This was definitely a day to remember.
