Page 4 of 2000 Breeding Pics

This NG/cfw male chick fledged with completely colored out chestnut flanks, black throat stripes, and a black chest bar.  Also, he was considerably larger than his two clutchmates or any other zebra chick around his age.  His clutchmate was a NG hen.  Once the sexes of the zeb chicks become evident, I separate males and females in their own flights.  I did this with these two and the male died about 2 weeks later.  He had no signs of illness, his breast bone was not pronounced (if it was then that would be a good indicator of him not eating).  The only thing I can think of is that he was lonely for his clutchmate, even though there were several males he could buddy up with, but he never did so.

At the time, these pics were taken, he had just started getting orange feathering for his cheek patches.
