Ghost Ship
Think "Final Destination" Meets "Titantic"
Epps-Played by Julianna Margulies-Only chick on a boat full of guys who are on the ses 360 days a year. Yeah, she gets hit on a lot.
Murphy-Played by Garbriel Byrne. The captain of the tug boat "Artic Warrior". Tends to drink a lot. Is kind of weird about boats and captain's quarters.
Jack Ferriman-Guy who hires Murphy and his crew to go on the titular "Ghost Ship". Turns out to be someone, or something, else.
Dodge-Blonde guy who's a bomb expert. Cause you need those on a boat in the middle of the ocean.
Greer-Token black dude. We know he's a goner when he mentions his finacee.
Santos-Mexican engineer who listens to metal. ROCK!
Munder-Long hair guy who's a damn good underwater welder. If there's such a thing.
Katie-Little girl ghost who guides Epps around the boat.
The beginning of this movie is the most fucked up thing ever. I couldn't even believe they chose this to start their movie. We see a bunch of rich people on a boat dancing while a hot chick named Francesca sings in Italian. The captain dances with a little girl when suddenly a wire gets loose and starts slicing everyone who's dancing into half, which reminds me of a scene out of "Final Destination". We see the people cut in half move around and grab their dismembered bodies, which made it the more fucked up.

We then come to present day where we meet the crew of the "Artic Warrior", a tug boat who goes around tugging bigger boats and fixing leaks, apparently. While celebrating a recent fix, Jack comes up to our crew and tells them there's a ship he found that might be really old. Murphy gets all excited and he and his crew agree to go check it out cause I guess you can turn in old boats for money. I dunno how the sea works.

They're unsure where this boat is but they finally get some sort of clue when they crash their tug boat into it. After a 20 minute scene of everyone checking it out, they realize they have to fix it in order to tow it to the magical man who pays money for old boats.

The next day, the crew is going about fixing it and of course they all go their own seperate ways. Greer, the lone black guy who's engaged so you know he's not gonna make it, starts hearing a lady sing. Dodge and Munder also hear the singing. Murphy finds the captain's room and immedately begins drinking. Epps and Jack meanwhile find a bunch of dead bodies.

Epps thinks something really weird is going on cause she periodically sees the ghost of the little girl from the beginning. And while they try to get the hell out of the boat, they stumble into a room full of gold!

This excites everyone and they immediately start to load the gold onto their tub boat. But, yet again I'm reminded of "Final Destination", the tug boat gets blown up, killing Santos. I thought Greer bit it here, but no he luckily survived.

Now they have no choice but to stay on the Antonia Garza. Not knowing what else to do, they decide to fix this ship and try to drive it somewhere where there's more people. Murphy feels responsible for Santos being killed and he drinks himself silly. Then he meets the ghost captain who explains that a few days before everyone suddenly died, they picked up a boat that bought the gold along. And some army guys. This gets explained a little later when Murphy sees a picture, but of course we don't see the picture so we don't know what he's all excited about.

Murphy then is greeted by the ghost of Santos, who possesses Epps, without Epps knowing it, so she thinks he's attacking her. When Jack knocks him out, they throw him into some tank thing until he "sobers up".

Greer, meanwhile, ends up going back in time and Francesca is seducing him. She even gets naked for him. When Greer tries to put it in the ghost, he falls over and impales himself. Told you he wouldn't last.

Epps becomes psychic and knows that the little ghost girl is named Katie. Seriously, this isn't explained. She looks at a LONG ass list of names and just points to one and says "That's her". So Epps talks to Katie, who then takes her back in time as well. We get a very rapidly edited montage of all that went down the day everyone on board died.

The army guys poisoned everyone, sliced the others, and shot whoever was left, including Katie. Then they tried to take the gold but then the mysterious figure came along and shot those guys, killed Francesca, and then we find out who the mysteriously figure is.

It's Jack.

See, this entire movie isn't about ships or gold or surviving. It's about Death and Death killing people. So Death, wanting to kill this rag tag group of people, told them to get on this boat so he could kill them. I'm guessing anyway, it isn't really that clear.

So Epps decides to blow up the damn boat cause he doesn't want Death to win. And of course she does and he doesn't. While floating on some luggage, Epps is finally found by another boat and taken to safety. Then we get a really confusing ending when we see Death boarding a ship with some gold...

I don't get it. Didn't all of that blow up? Didn't get die finally? I don't get it.
But overall, this movie isn't bad. It keeps your interest, even though you have no freakin idea what's going on half the time. And there are some lame special effects, like when Greer is going back in time, you can really tell he was in front of a green screen. They could've fixed that somehow but I guess they got lazy or something. And I'm guessing this movie was made around the time of "Final Destination", which explains the similarities.
Just don't go around any steel wires is all I'm saying.
3 stars.
Epps slowly realizes that the little girl behind her is dead and as a result smells pretty bad.
This guy is suppose to be Death. I thought he'd be skinnier.
The hot Italian singer chick Francesca.
Greer rather stupidly goes back in time and a bunch of rich white people from the 60's applaud him. RIIIIGHT!
