| Safety Rules for Exhibitors 1. The Show Safety Marshall has the authority to order any display shut down for safety reasons. He may also order a display to be removed immediately from the display area if safety concerns so warrant. The Show Safety Marshall must make a report to the club president within seven days of exercising the authority granted under this paragraph. 2. All members have an obligation to advise any other exhibitor of any condition considered unsafe. Should the exhibitor not correct the safety problem, the member has an obligation to report the infraction to the Show Safety Marshall. Any member has the right and obligation to shut down any equipment if, in his opinion, its operation poses a danger to the public or other exhibitors. 3. Each exhibitor of operating machinery must provide a minimum of one serviceable, fully charged carbon dioxide or dry chemical fire extinguisher of at least two pounds capacity at his display at all times. 4. Each exhibitor must use ropes and stantions to keep the public at least six feet from running engines and belted equipment. Stantions may be built with a base or driven into the ground. They shall be painted white and be designed to securely hold the rope between 30 and 35 inches (75 to 85 cm) above the ground. The distance between stantions shall be such that the rope is at least 26 inches (66 cm) above the ground at its lowest point. Ropes shall be yellow or orange and a minimum of 1/4 inch (65 mm) in diameter. A second rope securely fastened 10 inches (25 cm) below the first is optional. Where no public access is provided between exhibits, it is necessary to rope off only the front and rear of the exhibit area. 5. Fuel must be stored in approved containers and kept within the roped area and a minimum of six feet away from running engines and belted equipment. 6. Engines and all other operating equipment must be in safe working condition. Special attention should be given to such items as: flywheel keys, fuel lines and connections, fuel tanks and lock nuts, etc. 7. Space between operating equipment shall be at least six feet. 8. All engines and driven exhibits shall be securely fastened in a safe operating manner, and all belts must be in good condition. 9. Running engines and equipment must be attended at all times. Members who wish to leave equipment operating during a short absence must advise an adjacent member who must agree to be responsible for the equipment. The departing member must also ensure that his stand-in is familiar with the shut down procedures for the equipment. Equipment shall not be left running under any circumstances during prolonged absences. 10. All engines shall be stopped for refueling operations. A ten minute cool down period is recommended prior to refueling. During refueling, smoking is not permitted and a fire extinguisher shall be close by. 11. The speed of self propelled vehicles must not be greater than a walking pace. Ride on vehicles shall not carry more than the designed number of people. 12. All engines, saws and other driven exhibits must have protective covers in place when operating. An operating PTO shaft must have a protective cover for the full length of the shaft. 13. Powered lawn mowers may only be exhibited running if it is standing on a dust free surface, for example, a sheet of plywood. 14. Members who are loading or unloading equipment with winches and ramps must ensure that these items are of adequate strength and that the public is kept well out of harm's way. 15. Keep hands and clothing clear of moving parts. Avoid loose clothing around machinery. 16. It behooves the exhibitors to take any other measure he deems appropriate to ensure the public is reasonably protected form its own vulnerability to injury caused by their lack of understanding of the potential dangers associated with working machinery. 17. These rules have been established to ensure all members adhere to minimum safety standards. Nothing within these rules inhibit any member from taking such additional safety measures as he deems fit. Working within these rules will ensure the greater enjoyment of all concerned |
