About The Club

In March of 1999 a small group of  employees at the Canadian Salt Co. found that  in the lunchroom the conversation was often about the same thing, old tractors and equipment.
This prompted some of us to wonder if there was enough interest around this region to consider forming a club for people interested in older model tractors, machinery and related things. They ran a small ad in a local newspaper (Oxford Journal) but had very little response. But through word-of-mouth a list of possible interested parties was established, phone calls were made and a meeting set up.
On April 22, 1999 the first meeting was held at the Masonic Hall in Pugwash. There were ten people in attendance. It was decided to call the club the North Shore Antique Tractor Club. A representative was on hand from the Cumberland Car Club to give us an idea how to get started.
Our first effort as a club was to have a float and some tractors in the Canada Day parade on July 1st 1999 in Pugwash which went off very well. As the summer went on some of the membership got to shows in Sussex, N.B., Crapeau  P.E.I.,Wallace, N.S., Denmark, N.S. Amherst., N.S. & others.
In attending some of these shows there were also members of the Annapolis Valley Antique Engine Club, and some of our members interest started to swing toward stationary engines .. Early in the year 2000 it was decided that due to increasing interest in old engines the name should be changed to reflect this. So it was agreed that the club would from here on be known as the North Shore Antique Tractor & Engine Club.
Since our first meeting our membership has grown to over forty families and from several areas of the maritime provinces..
We now meet EVERY FOURTH SUNDAY OF THE MONTH (with the exception of December)  at 7:30 pm in the United Church Hall, Church St., Pugwash.
Members look forward to the very busy summer of shows and get togethers with two shows of our own each season, one in mid-July at Francis & Pauline Verstratens farm in Lorneville, N.S., and our harvest-time show in Wallace Bay in mid-September.These shows have been very sucessful in the past couple of years and are as good as any in the maritimes.
