     Philips                              10 Horsepower Acadia
These big engines were one of the most common in the Maritime Provinces.Acadia made the 10 HP model along with their Acadia boat haulout winches until as late as 1975,making them probably the last production hit & miss type engines  in North America. They were made under contract to Transport Canada / Coast Guard  to supply Government-owned facilities for moving small fishing vessels in and out of the water. Some still remain around
outlying ports. Also used for this purpose but less frequently was the Acadia 15 HP.
These engines were closely patterned after the United Engine Co. engines also sold by Acadia but manufactured in the U.S.A. Some parts are interchangeable, and at a glance it's hard to tell the difference between a 10 HP Acadia & a 6 HP United.
