80 mph Combat |
In 80 mph combat you can use any plane and any motor up to .40. Lines are to be .018" thick and 60 foot long from center of plane to palm of handle. With a safety thong attached to flyer and handle. 80 mph is actually 6.43 secs for 2 laps. Most contest use 6.5 secs. You need to set the speed of your plane without a streamer, before the contest. Good advice is not to push the limit, because the speeds may change throughout the day. All planes must have an engine shut off, should lines get cut. All streamers are to be made the same for that contest. You will distroy at least one plane during your life of flying combat, but most likely many. Bring at least 2 or 3 planes to small local contest, and 3 to 7 to most major contest. I've used all my planes in a contest, and I've placed 3rd in a major fast contest with one plane, 10 or 11 matches. You never know whats going to happen. Some save a really nice one for the finals, should they get there. But I like to fly the one that I'm winning with, if it's still flyable. Some-times with some small repairs. Most flyers either buy foamy airplane kits or build their own from scratch. You can buy pre-cut wings and build your oun plane. Or even buy a pre-made plane, usually made in Russia. They cost about $50 bucks and fly pretty darn well. The matches last 5 minutes long. You get 1 point for every sec in the air. 100 points for every streamer cut. Southwest we use the no kill rule, just 100 points for that knot cut. Northwest, I think uses the kill rule if you get the knot. The rules are what ever is set at the beginning of the contest, at the pilots meeting. |
