GIFTS

This poem is dedicated to my father, James Clark.

Light that shone at earth's dawning,
Love that brought life to man's morning,
Peace that embraced a  universe,
Coming to completeness.
Joy that caused the earth
To dance at the sun's rising.
God's gifts to a newborn world.
Darkness that falls at earth's waning,
Hate that brings death to man's evening,
War that destroys a universe,
Struggling for completeness.
Grief that causes the earth
To mourn the sun's passing.
Man's gifts to a dying world.
Yet hope carries the earth, spinning onward.
For in every seed that is planted
There grows another of God's gifts,
The promise of re-birth.
Beginnings

In the Beginning........
I suppose it all had to start somewhere
In the Beginning........
I know you were there
....in the beginning.
But where  ?
And where were you before
the beginning ?
In the Beginning was the Word,
God spoke, the Spirit breathed
and you created...........what ?
A blessing or a curse ?
Or just..... Life ?
And the Word was with God
And the Word was God
Everything that you are
Every word from your lips
is revealed in the Word,
becoming flesh and blood.
A work in progress
beginning before life existed
In the Beginning...........

THE PYLON

Have you ever looked at the pylon
Tall and stark against the night sky?
Silver and gleaming in the headlights of cars
As they dart, and pass speeding by.

Have you ever looked at the pylon
And wondered who put it there?
It looks like it's been there forever
And refuses to move elsewhere.

I see my Christ in the pylon
Bringing his light and his power to all
Crossing mountains and valleys, cities and fields
Touching lives both great and small.

The pylon can seem so distant,so cold
Yet the doe goes to sleep in his shadow
The birds dance while the pylon sings
And the little flowers cling to his toes.

In this modern world where machines scream and whirr
Where confusion and noise are the norm
The fieldmice all know, within the pylon's shade
They are safe from the tractor's roar.

The pylons are standing, not rushing about
But at peace and at one with the world
Do they know the answer?Do they know the truth?
Just listen to their song.....

"Darkness is ended. For the Light of the World has come".
