SCENE: A stable in Bethlehem. The early hours of the morning . Everything is still.
Only a tiny sheep is awake.
SHEEP: (to herself) I could get used to living in a stable like this.It�s much warmer than out on the hills. My little master seems nice. Hard to tell though. He's only a few hours old,after all.
DONKEY : (wakes up) Hello. Did you arrive during the night ?
SHEEP : Baa...........(nods) My shepherd brought me to give me to the baby.
DONKEY : How did your shepherd know the baby was born ?
SHEEP : We were out on the hills as usual. When suddenly, a great light shone in the sky.
We heard a voice tell the shepherds to go to Bethlehem, and look for a baby lying in a manger.
DONKEY: Well they nearly didn't find him here.
SHEEP : Why ?
DONKEY : The innkeeper nearly turned the baby's parents away because the inn was full.
You should have heard the din the cow made about giving up her food- trough.
HEE - HAW ! But as soon as the baby was born, changed her tune, didn't she ?..... and
sang a lullaby instead .
SHEEP : Do you live here then ?
DONKEY : No, my Master ,Joseph brought me along to carry Mary & the unborn child.
SHEEP : So, did you come a long way ?
DONKEY : A week's journey. I'm glad to get some rest now. (Yawns)
SHEEP : You missed all the excitement last night while you were sleeping.
DONKEY : What do you mean. ? I saw the baby being born. And apart from you arriving , what
more is there ?
SHEEP : Well.......Three Kings arrived all dressed in fine clothes ,and carrying expensive gifts .........
made me feel quite ......Baaaaa.....
DONKEY : How would Kings know the baby had been born ?
SHEEP : I spoke to one of their camels .He was a bit stuck -up - but not bad- for a camel..
He said they had seen this special star and had followed it from the East.
DONKEY : That must be the star I saw overhead.
SHEEP : It seems these three Kings do this kind of thing all the time.
DONKEY : Give expensive gifts ??
SHEEP : No - Study stars and all that .
DONKEY : And I slept through it all.
SHEEP : What are they calling the baby ?
DONKEY : JESUS
SHEEP : Mm. Nice name.
DONKEY : You know ,you talking about bright lights and voices has reminded me .
I was at home in Nazareth with Mary when a voice spoke to out of a bright light.
SHEEP : Never.
DONKEY : True .It was an angel who told her that she would have a son who would save his people,
Israel, and she was to call him Jesus.
SHEEP : This must be a very special child .
DONKEY : Very special.....(falls asleep )
SHEEP : Hey - Have you gone to sleep again ?
Never mind.
Sleep well, little donkey !!!!!!!!!
