THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT
Simon was very excited. His best friend Adam's Mum and Dad had invited him to go with Adam to a barbecue. It was to be held in the evening, which meant Simon would be allowed to stay up late. He was a little afraid of the dark - but he wasn't going to let Adam see that. The great day arrived. Simon kept wishing the clock would go faster so that it could be time to leave for the barbeque. At last, the car arrived.
Simon rushed out of the house,"'Bye Mum! 'Bye Dad!" "Be good!," shouted Mum , "Have a good time!"
The barbecue was ace. Simon and Adam had a great time. All too soon, it was time to go home. Simon was very happy and very tired. Before long, he had fallen asleep in the back seat of the car. "Look at Simon," said Adam's Mum, "he's asleep already. Why don't we take him home with us? He can sleep in the spare room and I'll phone his parents." So Adam's Dad carefully carried Simon into the house and upstairs to the spare room. He covered Simon with a warm blanket and tiptoed quietly out of the room, closing the door. Adam's Mum phoned Simon's parents so they would know he was safe.
In the middle of the night, Simon woke up. It was very dark. He knew he wasn't in his own bed. Where was he ?
He didn't like the dark. He stretched out his hand to a table beside the bed. Crash ! Something hit the floor. He got out of bed. Ow ! The floor was covered in cold, lumpy bits. He began to get really scared. He didn't like this place at all. He bumped into something which creaked and began to move. "Mum ! Mum !",he shouted.
Just then the door opened and a light was switched on.
There in the doorway was Adam's Mum. Simon looked round. He realised this was Adam's spare room. There was a glass on the floor and some nails. He must have knocked the glass and the box of nails over as he stretched out his hand. And there in the middle of the room was the rocking- horse Adam's Dad was working on.. That was what he'd bumped into. No wonder it moved !
Simon wasn't scared anymore, because the light had chased away the darkness. The light was enough to make Simon feel safe.
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the light of the world. He understands when we're scared or lonely and he's promised he'll never leave us. And Jesus NEVER EVER breaks his promise.
