ARMISTICE DAY TALK

(
It helps to have a 'Sammy' - in this case Sammy was a horse puppet)

I brought someone to meet you. Sammy where are you?
This is Sammy. Say hello to the boys and girls . ( Sammy Hides)
You are not shy! Say Hello. (Sammy waves)
Sammy. What have you got on your leg?
A hankie with a knot in it?  Why?
To help you remember. Remember what?
.You forget. Thats not much use is it?

Sammy and I have brought along my rainbow bag .
( Any multi-coloured bag will do)
. Its full of things that help us to remember. Were going to need 4 helpers.

(1)  You can hold the rainbow bag. What does the rainbow  help us to remember?
( Gods promise that he would never  send a great flood again)

(2)  A calendar What does the calendar help us to remember?
(Places to go , people to seeBirthdays anniversaries etc.)

(3 )  A shopping list. What does the shopping list help us to  remember.?
(the things we need to buy)

(4)   Bread and Wine
(A juice bottle labelled wine)
What does bread and wine help us to remember?
(Communion - that Jesus died for us so that we could be  forgiven and be Gods friends )

(5)    Sammy is wearing his Poppy  What does the poppy help us to  remember?
( those who died in the war)

Today, we set aside time to remember. At 11 oclock in churches and at war memorials  all over Scotland and elsewhere people will stand in silence to remember. We remember the men and women who gave their lives so that our world might have peace. We remember those who even today are risking their lives so that there might be peace and freedom once more. We remember that our God is a God of Peace and that its important that you and I try to live at peace with one another and settle our arguments without having to fight or squabble.
