Living Conditions
Buffy's roomie, Kathy, is really starting to get on
her nerves. She's all pristine, perfect, and perky, 24 hours a
day. She also seems to act like a 5 year-old in the fact that
her gestures, etc. seem to point that way. And what's really,
really annoying is she plays the Cher song Believe throughout
the whole episode. So one night she sets off to patrol
but before she goes she gets the once over for using some of Kathy's
milk - but she says she didn't mind, just wanted to be sure it
was her and not some milk thief. Buffy goes, telling Kathy she's
going out for a coffee, and meets Willow outside to walk her to
her dorm. After Willow leaves she hears Buffy hears something
and Buffy calls out for them to show themselves; Kathy bounces
up (she literally bounces up, no exaggeration) and tells her felt
like getting a decaf coffee herself. Then a demon appears and
Buffy pushes Kathy out of the way - into the nearby bushes - and
fights it before it runs away. Kathy gets up, her sweater ruined.
She is almost angry that Buffy fought the guy - Buffy says it
was just instinct or something because Kathy says "What were
you thinking, you could have been hurt!" So they go back
to the dorm Kathy upset 'bout her sweater.
These demons (more the same as the one Buffy fought) say that
they think she is the one.
The next day Buffy wakes up after having this awful dream including
scorpions and other evil stuff. That day (in an order I can't
remember - I think this is the order) she goes down to the foyer
of the place and talks to Giles, Willow, and Oz about her dream
and how "The worst part was when I woke up and there was
Kathy". Oz thinks the worst part was they scorpions but she
says something along the lines of "No. Kathy's real."
Then Kathy turns up and Buffy introduces her. Then Buffy tells
her to shove off. Later, at lunch Buffy heads towards the back
of the line, sees Kathy and jumps right in the line in front of
this guy who she starts talking to (later he turns up but Buffy
was out so he starts talking to Kathy about an American hocky
team - I assumed it was American - and Buffy walks in on them
getting all cosy. She gets mad and then, when he leaves Kathy
says "It wouldn't have hurt you to be nice you know!"
- they get all Bitchy at eachother) him, they learn eachothers
names and dorms and he tells Buffy how to get more for the ticket
thingy for food. Buffy goes over to her friends and they start
talking - Xander's there. Then Kathy comes over and sits down.
She's wearing one of Buffy's nice cardigans. Buffy tells her so
and she says that she didn't think she'd mind as she had ruined
hers. Buffy restrains herself and tells her that she would have
prefered if she'd asked first. Then Kathy starts to eat this big
burger and spills sauce all down the front. Buffy squints her
eyes in this evil, cute, cool looking way (she does this a few
times through the episode).
Sometime (maybe around here) during the episode the two demons
we saw talking previously, summon this big demon to the place
they are.
One night Oz goes with Buffy to hunt. On the way the two pass
this group of teens, one a girl who, when her and Oz pass eachother,
keep staring, craning their necks to keep seeing eachother (my
thought: maybe she's a warewolf and Oz recognises this or something).
Then they both turn away and a screen shot shows that gang of
military looking people (with guns again) heading towards the
group of three from the bushes. Buffy complains really loudly
till Oz asks her if this talking would be scaring the vamps way.
She gets annoyed saying that Kathy was even affecting her slaying
and then ends up slaming her foot down on this bench. Oz says
"Well at least you killed the bench." and Buffy tells
him that it wasn't funny. When he next talks to Willow he tells
her that she's going over the edge.
So Buffy goes on having those evil dreams (which Kathy is also
having). Buffy starts to go really nuts as both girls start to
get way annoyed at eachothers actions (eg. Kathy cutting
her toe nails, Buffy leaving the window open, Kathy's music, Buffy
tapping her pencil 'till it breaks) and Buffy's convinced that
she is evil and, as Buffy fights evil, she will kill her. Buffy
had taken some of Kathy's toenails and proves to Willow, and then
Giles that they kept growing and that Kathy was a demon. They
don't believe her, of course, and at Giles they three guys catch
her with a net and tie her up. Xander doesn't tie the ropes tight
enough and when Xander and Oz go to check them Buffy slams their
heads together - unconsious.
Buffy goes to the dorm and they start to fight. Buffy rips off
Kathy's fake face to reveal a face like the demons we saw earlier.
Buffy says "I knew it!" and they keep fighting. Kathy
throws Buffy through her cupboard then drags her back into the
room and Buffy strangles Kathy with the ruined cardigan before
Kathy rips it into peices. The big, evil, summond demon turns
up and tells "Kathy" that he had come to bring her back
to her universe. "Kathy" wants to know why he won't
treat her like her age of 3000 instead of the 900 years he was
treating her. Oz and Xander turn up (Giles had come back and had
proven that Kathy was a demon and then done this ritual to reverse
the thing that Kathy had done to Buffy - steal her soul) and they
see this guy. A portel in the floor apears and Buffy gets behind
the bed to keep away from it as Kathy and the dude get sucked
into it.
So with Kathy gone, Willow moves out of her dorm of a constant
party house and into Buffy's dorm. They are putting up a poster
of The Dingo's Ate My Baby's (Oz's band for anyone who
hasn't watched that many of the season 3 episodes *hint, hint
- Kellie*) before Buffy moves a box for hher after puting downt
he plate holding the sandwhich she was eating. So Willow picks
it up and says "You're not gonna eat this, are you."
and takes a bite. Camera zooms into Willows mouth and Buffy gives
her evil squint.
