| A chinchilla is a rodent that looks like a rabbit with a squirrel's tail and is related to the guinea pig. They once thrived completly over the South American Andes Mountains. Wild chinchillas can now only be found in the high mountains of Chile, because they are highly valued for thier satin-soft fur and were hunted to near extinction. Living in colonies buried among rocks, chinchillas come out at night to eat grass and herbs. They have no know natural defences.
