Costumes

Costumes are what love to show best! Though I am not good at making them (Yet) I am good at dreaming them up and finding people to create them. This page will show some of my personal favorites and some of the ones that have won at live shows for me. I could care les how well I place in most Live and photo show classes as long as I do well in the costume class! Strange I know, but we all have our little "quirks"

Wizcostume.jpg (92684 bytes)  This is costume done by Marcella Peyre-Ferry is of a wizard. It was done from a fantasy illustration I saw in a book. The doll is an Action Jackson doll dressed up as the wizard. What you can't see is is off white pants, his tunic and the purple designs hand cut and "glued " to his back. His boots are a soft blue suede. The mare costume, Her name is Yfandes by the way, is done in blue and golds with gold bells hanging from the straps. The bird, taking flight is a osprey that I found at a target that was coing out of business several years ago. The jesses hanging from the birds feet help hide the straight pin that I use to make him look like he is taking flight from the wizards hand.

Eilistraee.jpg (90524 bytes) This is one of my first Conquistador outfit. It has long since been sold, but it holds fond memories as it was the Conquistador costume that started the rest I had done. This one, like all the others I have had made, is also done by Marcella Peyre-Ferry. It sports an hand cross-stitched saddlepad, breast collar and browband and nose band. The rider is a Luke Duke doll dresses by Marcy also. The horse is my black Andalusian Mare Eilistraee (for her story see my showstrin page.)

Jordaniancostume.jpg (89446 bytes) Jordanian Arab Costume - The costume is by the talented Melody Snow. It is done based on the contemporary Jordanian styles. When I was offered the chance at buying this piece I literally jumped for joy as I didn't think I would get a shot at it. But I did, and do not regret buying it. The detailis fantastic. There is hand stitching on the saddle, saddlepad and drape. The bridle is hand braided and the tassles are hand made. This piece looks even better in person!

Arab.jpg (18412 bytes) Arab costume by Marcella Peyre-Ferry - This costume was done from a picture of a costume I saw in an Arabian horse magazine. Marcy went all out on it! She hand cut the eagles from gold lame` and glued them on. She then made a matching outfit for Brenda to wear. I no longer own this outfit, but it still deserves a place on my page.

DancingArab.jpg (23617 bytes) Dancing Arab costume by Marcella Peyre-Ferry - This costume is done based on the Dancing Arab costumes of Egypt. Here we see Tarkheena performing "in hand" with her rider to the side. The costumes for Dancing Arabs are colorful and use bells and all sorts of decoration. The horse performs moves to music, and some of the moves are very similar to Dressage moves. Horses are judged on their performance and costume

Indiancostume.jpg (28777 bytes) Indian Costume by Jennifer Harris - this costume was done by the talented Jen Harris of California. The papoose is a Christmas ornament that I picked up on sale and sent to Jen to use. The costume is very authentic and well detailed. It has NAN qualified several times. A fun story behind the papoose is he is the second one I sent to Jen. The first one got sent to Kathleen Moody to use as a reference for the papoose done on the Breyer Porcelain Indian pony!

Arab outfit.jpg (101260 bytes) This is a lovely Arab costume by Janet Brown. This picture does not do this outfit justice as it came out too dark and the colors are "distorted" But, until I can get a better one, it will do. The actual colors are blue, tans, blacks and golds, the riders outfit is a matching blue and white. It is shown here on my Stone model HH Silver Sultan, who was a limited run of 500.

17thcent.jpg (17686 bytes) 17th Century riding costume  This is a replication of the style of tack used in and around the 17th century. Done by Marcella Peyre-Ferry from pictures and paintings of Renaisance style tack. There are even little "guns" under the "gun holders" at the front of the saddle. What's not shown with this picture is the doll I have for the set up, I will add that picture latter. This set can also double as a "Musketeer" outfit as Marcy made a doll up like a French Musketeer for me!
17thwrider.jpg (16179 bytes) Live show set up used for this costume. took first place at this show
