Amber Dragon - This is the
Amber Dragon miniature made by Reaper miniatures. Done in a layer of yellows with a
reddish-brown-orange color dry brushed across the back. I made the base bigger to give the
dragon more stability. I sold this dragon on e-bay awhile back but I have plans on doing
another for myself as I really like how it turned out |
 |
Great Fire dragon - This is
ral partha's great fire dragon. I painted him using the new monster manual as reference,
Thus the tips of his wing and back ridges are done in a purplish-gray. His eyes are a
bright yellow and glossed over with a high gloss finish. The whole dragon has a
"golden" sheen that was brushed on to give the appearance that he's been laying
on his treasure pile |
  |
Rock Dragon - This is the
grenadier rock dragon. (He looks more like a flying prehistoric dinosaur to me!) I am
rather proud of how he came out with his layers of dry brushing, especially under the
wings. The "multi-colored" grass is supposed to be reminiscent of Lichens (a
plant) which can come in all those colors and would be seen in higher altitudes |
 |
Guardian Dragon - This is
the Grenadier Guardian Dragon, but I don't think he looks that fierce. Grenadier also
marketed him as a "pet" dragon at one time. A much better fitting name if you
ask me. Anyway, this guy was done in a shaded red with a yellow belly and back ridged. his
face is shaded pink and purple. The close up of his face really catches his
"personality". he was prayed with a matte finish and the blue jewels in his
collar were then high glossed over separately |
   |
This is the silver dragon
by Reaper. He was first spray with a pearl finish and then later (after this picture) went
over with a high gloss. Even without the high gloss you can see the faint blue and pink
showing up from the pearl spray. the inside of his mouth and his eyes were also high
glossed. The third picture shows his scale when compared to a Ral Partha Miniature (The
mage is green) and a Reaper miniature (The unpainted mage) |

This is the Grenadier white dragon
from the Dragon of the Month series II. This particular series featured a dragon and a
"companion mage" usually human looking. The companion to this guy is in the
process of being "touched up" as the snow had gotten "dingy" looking.
In the mean time you can check out the dragon. Recently re-done in a pearl white and a
metallic black on the horns, I think he looks a lot better. The pearl color gives the
scales a nice sheen. The snow is a craft snow used by people working with ceramics on
their Holiday villages. It is called "no fire snow" and is made by Duncan
paints. |

Here we have the blue dragon from
Grenadier's dragon of the month II series. Another "touch up" from days gone by.
I used a rub on finish used in ceramics to "create" a pearl finish. On this
particular guy it came out pretty neat. After rubbing in the pearl blue he was matte
sealed. His companion mage is an elf that I painted up to be a female Drow. You can
see a better picture of her under the "villains" heading. They are one of the
few "sets" that I did both dragon and companion at the same time. |
  |
This is the copper dragon from
grenadier's Dragon of the Month series II. He was painted a metallic copper red
matte sprayed and then gone back over in a high gloss to make his scales shine. His
companion mage has yet to be painted (even though this guy has been painted for years, he
was just recently high glossed though.) but is on the ol' work table, so someday soon they
will be reunited |
  |
This is the silver dragon from
grenadier's dragon of the month series II. Like all the others he too has a companion
mage, and like his mage also needs to be painted still! I just recently starting
"up-dating" these guys. Not too much, just going back and high glossing them to
make them stand out more. They are old works, and though I may not have prepped them as
well as I could, I am still awfully proud of them and wish to leave them as they are.
(when I say old works they were done in the late 80's early 90's) |
    |
Nachtlufte - This is the
Reaper miniature Nachlufte he is in the 70mm scale. There are four pictures of because of
the way is he put together. He is very three dimensional and very hard to take pictures
of! I initially spray him black with spray paint and then went back to 'detail" him
out. His underside and wings are shaded purple to "pinkish" color. The black
scales were gone over with "rub-on" metallic colors of blue, green and
purple. The blue shows up best in the pictures The whole thing was matte coated and then
the moth and eyes were painted with a high gloss |
 |
Bronze Dragon - From Ral
Partha's dragon of the month series II. This guy had some epoxy waves added to his base. I
thought it made it look more like the painting on the box. I recently went back and fixed
the waves by added a "no fire" snow to make them look more
"frothy". I also went in and used a high gloss brush on the dragon and
"dabbed" the rocks to give them a "wet look" Otherwise I changed
nothing on my original paint job. This is another "older" piece for me |
 |
This is the Brass dragon
from the dragon of the month series II made by Grenadier miniatures. He recently under
went a face lift the incorporated re-painting his teeth and eyes, and adding a high gloss
finish to his hide. His rider is currently under going her "makeover" and when
done I will add another picture of the two of them together |
   |
This is the Battling Bronze
dragon made by Thunderbolt miniatures. At this time, Thunderbolt has suspended all
miniature production, so it is unknown as to whether or not they will continue to make
them. This guy was painted using many different shades am metallic colors! there are
two different shades of bronze on his body, with a highlight coat of a bright shade of
gold dry brushed on top. His wings are two shades of metallic, one being a dark brown with
a pearl accent added with a bronze dry brushed over, she same Pearl brown was used on his
spin. The whole piece was then sprayed with a pearl finish and the hand brush with a high
gloss finish! The closeness of the colors make it very hard to get "good"
pictures showing the difference, but the three shown here are pretty good |
  |
This is the black
dragon from Grenadiers Dragon of the month series II. he came with a female wizard as a
companion. He was recently "updated" and got a new coat of paint, a color called
"sequin black" that has a metallic look to it. In the light, it looks very nice |
  |
Guardian Dragon - This
is the Guardian Dragon by Reaper. He was painted black and a metallic red highlight was
rubbed into the black to "add a little color" The Crystal Ball is also a Reaper
product from their Magical Treasures three blister. I added it to give the Dragon
something to be "guarding" I based him with sand, and after this picture put him
on a larger heavier base for more stability |
  |
White Dragon - This is
the grenadier "silver" dragon from the Dragon of the month series 1. I just
never saw it as a silver dragon, thought this color scheme worked better. He is all white
with pink, purple and blue shading. The base is covered with a craft snow, used in making
those Christmas villages. The whole piece was sealed with a pear sealer to ad shine and
some pearl highlights to the whole piece. |
   |
Deathsleet - this is
Deathsleet by Reaper miniatures. She is 6" of fiercesome scale and teeth! She was
done in layers of light blue shading up to white. Still having trouble getting a good
picture though! The blue keeps fading away, but these aren't too bad. The picture of her
in the cave is how I saw her, standing over her hatching clutch of eggs. I plan on making
a complete diorama of this, with a base for both her and the eggs to stand on. Will post
that when it is all complete. I am very pleased with how she came out, because in person,
she looks great! Her pictures definitely don't do her justice! |
 |
Grenadier hatching
dragon - this is a set of three dragon eggs with one hatching out. The eggs are painted a
light blue and the baby pure white with blue eyes. The hatchling and inside of the shell
were brushed with a high gloss to make her look "new born" look. This is the
eggs that I painted to go with Deathsleet above. |
