Tying Instructions
1. Gently bend the shank of the hook downward from the point about
¼ of the way back from eye. Bend should be about 30 deg. Starting
at the eye wrap the thread back to the end of the shank of the hook.
2. Tie in a length of vinyl ribbing at the end of the hook shank.
Then tie in the gold tinsel flashabou. Wrap thread back to the eye
of the hook. Wrap the gold tinsel around the back of the vinyl ribbing
and then up the hook shank covering the shank. Tie off at the point
the shank was bent. Wrap the vinyl ribbing over the tinsel up to the
same point and tie off.
3. With the point up, tie in a clump of white bucktail on top of the
hook. On each side of the white bucktail tie in strands of pearl accent
flash. Tie in a clump of olive bucktail over the white. Finally tie
in a clump of purple bucktail on top of the olive.
4. Build up a head with the black thread. Coat with epoxy, hard as
nails or head cement. Apply the holographic eyes. Build up finish
over the head.
Note
The
Prince of Tides is a variation of the bendback design. It was developed
by Flip Pallot for Louisiana redfish. The bendback design results
in a weedless fly that rides point up. The unique feature of the Prince
of Tides is the vinyl ribbing along the shank of the hook rather than
the typical chenille body. This makes for a cleaner fly when fished
over a muddy bottom. While the fly can be tied with a variety of color
combinations, this particular fly is the Mardi Gras version using
the official New Orleans colors of purple, green and gold.
