Tying Instructions
Start with the tail, 20 strands of golden Pheasant
tippets 1 ½ the length of the hook. Tie on approx. even with
the barb of the hook.
Next, tie on dubbing to form body, stopping at about
the middle of the hook shank.
Now, take 5-6 strands of flash and tie on forming
underwing.
Tie on some white calftail.
Tie on two rubber legs in an X-pattern so you end
up with 4 legs.
The head is the trickiest part. Begin by tying on
a small clump of stacked deer hair with the tips pointed towards the
bend of the hook.
“Spin” the hair by bringing the thread around the
hair and hook shank and pulling it toward you. Add more hair in small
clumps on sides of shank.
Trim hair to form head. Be careful not to
cut the rubber legs off, or you’ll be starting over.
How to Fish
This is a Rocky Mountain pattern developed a few
years ago. It is an attractor pattern that imitates stoneflies and
hoppers, It has good visibility in fast moving water. Fly is best
fished with an occasional “twitch” to wiggle the legs. The “twitch”
will sometimes draw strikes.
