Tying Instructions

Tie in thread. Wrap to above barb. Tie in biot for tail. Tie in gold wire, leaving loose for later. Wrap peacock herl to eye and tie off. Using red thread, tie in the red area of the body and whip finish. Wrap gold wire rib to eye. Strip one side of hen hackle and tie in. Wrap until evenly distributed and tie off. Whip finish.

How to Fish

I like to fish this fly on a swing, casting across the current, letting it sink below the surface, mending to slow its speed as it rises on the swing. Very effective when the fish are hitting something at or near the surface but aren’t taking dries. I love this fly because it is easy to fish, easy to tie, and very productive. Sometimes it will get hit as a dry, sometimes as a nymph, but to see the water boil up and have the line straighten on the swing is a real rush.
