Lone Star Hybrid Thang
by Barry Ekstrand a.k.a. Barry/TX

Materials

Hook: Streamer or saltwater hook, long shank, size 4 to 4/0 (depending on
whether saltwater or freshwater use)

Thread: White 6/0

Tail: 3 or 4 cream dry fly hackle (size 2 or so)

Underbody: Tan / pearl flash chenille

Body: White Bucktail with rainbow krystal flash or flashabou

Throat: Red rabbit fur strip

Wing: Black Bucktail

Eyes: Bar bell with painted eyes

Tying Instructions

1. Smash the hook barb, place hook in vise in the conventional manner
(shank up)

2. Start thread about halfway down hook shank and lay a thread base down
to the bend, then back to the starting point.

3. Tie in the tail hackle feathers all together, trying to end up with
them straight off the back of the hook. Run the thread down the shank and
back to secure the feathers well.

4. Tie in the flash chenille underbody, beginning at the halfway point and
running down the shank and back up to the starting point, tie off
securely.

5. Tie in 6 or 8 strands of krystal flash or flashabou (3 or 4 on each
side).

6. Tie on the barbell eyes securely with figure 8 wraps over and around the eyes.

7. Tie in the white bucktail body in front of the eyes. Secure over the
eyes to flatten somewhat the way the bucktail sweeps back over the hook
and creating a body.

8. Tie in a small amount of red rabbit fur on top of the white bucktail to
create a throat.

9. Turn the hook over (this is why you bought your rotary vise!) and tie> in the black bucktail wing.

10. Use thread to build a head, whip finish, and cement with Dave's Flexament or epoxy, depending on preference and usage.
