Materials

Hook: #4-12 Aberdeen

Thread: Gray 6/0 Uni

Hackle: Grizzly Saddle

Belly: Flourescent Floss

Dubbing: Gray Nymph

Tying Instructions

Start the thread and wrap back.

Pinch off a knot of grizzly hackles and tie them in as a tail.

Tie the grizzly hackle you will palmer on, tip first.

Tie on a bunch of floss for the belly, you will need more than you think.

Wrap the shank in .20 lead wire

Begin dubbing gray nymph dubbing. You want a cigar shape.

Pull the floss on the bottom of the hook up to the eyelet and tie off.

Palmer the hackle, and you're done.

How to Fish

This is a very interesting fly. It was created by Tom Nixon, I believe in Louisiana. It has become a favorite on the White River system in North Arkansas. Tom named the fly after hearing the old maxim that dry fly fishers are 99.44% pure. This pattern accounts for the remainder. Nixon passed away in May 2003.

It is basically your standard wooly bugger, but it performs especially well on slate overcast days and in the rain. The flourescent strip on the bottom apparently helps it show up against the dreary sky.
