The Olympic Southern Flyers Ice Racing Club Incorporated was founded in 1949 at
the Glacierium Ice Skating Rink in South Melbourne.
(Formerly known
as the Southern Flyers Speed Skating Club, prior to 1971 & also
"Olympic" Southern Flyers Speed Skating Club, prior 1987)
The Olympic Southern Flyers Ice Racing Club is now in their 60th
year of continuous involvement in the organised sport of Ice Speed
Skating / Ice Racing, and is the oldest sanctioned club in Australia.
The club embraced the name of "Olympic" when it relocated from the St
Moritz Ice Skating Rink in St Kilda to the Olympic Ice Skating Centre in
South Oakleigh in 1971. The club became an incorporated body in 1987.
The Club is affiliated to the Victorian Ice Racing Association Inc (VIRA
Inc) and to the Australian Amateur Ice Racing Council Inc (AAIRC Inc),
which are our governing bodies state and nationally.
