'The Right Stuff' & 'Apollo 13' are two movies which come to mind when talking aviation & space flight. 'Memphis Belle', 'Always', 'Forever Young', 'Top Gun' & 'The Aviator' are few more quite enjoyable stories. These are all good movies about aircraft, flying & space. No doubt there are many others, some fictional & others based on history.
The first experience of flight that I remember was in a deHaviland Heron to King Island, in Bass Strait. Like most kids, I used to count the times I'd been in a plane as I grew.
But then came my first experience as a pilot in a Drifter ultralight. I was hooked!! Then I learned to fly (I studied aviation at Cambridge!!) & soloed in a Cessna 172. Later, I flew C182, Piper Supercub & a Victa Airtourer (aerobatics). I also had the opportunity to fly a motor-glider. This was the only time I've stopped the engine in flight & I didn't have to call "Mayday"!
That was all a little while ago. Now I get to fly Bill Gates' private jet around the world from the comfort of my own lounge room. But I look forward to the time when once again I can get some real air under my wings, with my family.
...and I dream.
